I thought I would post a two photos witch have a bit of an overview of Chuck Doan's incredible diorama that I had the good fortune to see in person over this last weekend. I will post more on the TNGS site once I have them formatted.
Photos will never do this incredible work justice. It is truely something that has to be seen and experienced in person. In my opinion (and that of others in our modeling group), I can honestly and absolutely say, that there has been NOTHING built in model railroading, or published, that can even come close to this diorama. There is nothing that you can compare it to. You can sit for hours looking at it and continue to see something new. The craftsmanship is unsurpassed....you come away shaking your head in disbelief. There is no way top praise or explain this project that can make a person undersatnd it, without them also having seen it....it is truely indescribable. You can almost smell the dust, the oil, the grime........the realism, attention and to detail are absolutely stunning. ....and to boot Chuck is the nicest, most humble guy about the whole thing!

Marc and I spent the day and night with Chuck at his place. We never stopped looking at the diorama, discovering so many little details and mini scenes.... at one stage I felt like I was actually in the workshop.... just a brilliant piece of art..... I had to wipe the drool of Marc's face so many times...it was like cleaning a baby's face..( he's looking at you kid ).......
Chuck.... thanks for a great day and pleasure seeing your father's work.....

All I could see was the front side as I read your superlative laced intro...and I thought as I looked at the shed "well that's pretty good." Then I scrolled to the second photo and my jaw dropped.
Let us know when you post the photos over on the Terrapin site.

Marc,
Thanks for posting. Chuck's work is truely amazing. I am looking forward to the updates to your web site with more great modeling. Did anyone take any pics of Chuck's Dad's work? I heard that it is as amazing as Chucks.

That's one of the finest dioramas I have ever seen! I would love to see more of it, especially any close-ups! Will you be posting more photos here on the forum, Marc, or are the rest destined for the Terrapin website?

The realism is absolutely mind boggling! I could actually smell the interior of the shop as I studied the photos!
This diorama needs to be the subject of a long, long magazine article.
Thanks for the extra photos, Marc!

Marc The second set of pictures has a sense of actually being inside the loco shed. The colors and textures are almost transforming. This is truly the Art of Model Building.

Check out some of chuck's previous posts!! He's been teasing us the past several months. From the first photo, I recognize the porter, The wheel sets, & I believe the shed has a cat on the top. If my memory is not too fried, some are listed in nothing but a piece of junk thread. The Porter was shown in Chuck Doan's Porter thread. Also, check out the March 2005 Gallery. -david j

Having seen belt driven devices in use not too long ago I can tell you that I can hear the belts slapping in these photos. Great as usual.
