Hi All:

Found this kit by Blair Line and thought it interesting. So I thought I'd start a construction thread on it. It is only $31.95. Not to bad and it look like it might come out well.

It looks like a nicely designed kit, Karl. And the price looks right also.

Will you be building this straight out of the box, or do you have some changes in mind for it?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm a busy man. I have a railroad to run.

Looks great - can't wait to see it all together.

A couple questions on your procedure Karl:
1. How do you keep the wood flat when prepainting and weathering with no signs of bracing?
2. How do you paint the plastic parts (windows etc) so they match up with the walls?

Jerry:

Staining and painting do not usually cause warping as I use solvent based paint. I really dislike acrylic paint. I just can't get used to it. Where you run into warping problems is with your A&I wash. Instead of puddling it on heavily I put it on with a small brush and pat most of it off first. The bracing for this kit is the interior walls. Windows and trim will be red drybrushed with antique whit to blend them in.

I think you just like the fumes. Nice work. You could finish it in a day, but you may decide your personal touch is needed to make it unique.

Hi All:

This kit is kinda neat. It's small and simple but has some appeal. If you sat and built it straight through it's about a 4 to 5 hour kit. It assembles well and the parts fit nicely or atleast so far they do. I will post more pics tonight if I get a chance ok. And yes the basement smells great after a session. Love that thinner.

Karl S

PS: Just wanted to build something simple for myself for a change.

Hi All:

If anyone decides to build this kit be very careful of the eat and open signs. They are very fragile and easily broken after being removed from the carrier. Also there are two slots in the rear wall that appear to have no parts for them. I called blair line about this and he told me they were the roof drains. I will probably apply scuppers over top of them if I can find them in all the junk I have around.

Mike C:

I'm just building it oout of the box as is. I have added a coke sign to one of the side walls that doesn't come with the kit.

Karl S,
Great looking little kit. I like to do a small kit every once in a while for a change. This one looks like something to add to my collection.

Hi All:

Here are finished pictures of Fred's & Red's Cafe by Blair Line. It is a very simple kit but it went together well and best of all all the parts fit well. It was a fun two night project.
