I worked on this kit last summer and got as far as painting all the hydrocal brick wall castings. Here is a picture of some of them:

I got bored doing all the windows and gave it a rest. Then I got involved with this forum and participated in the 2 FOS kits and now the challenge. After I'm done with the challenge my plan is to get back to work on Skinner's. So I'm not sure when I'll get back to this kit.

Hi Rick, I am at a very similar stage with my kit. I am presently putting the wood walls and the hydrocal walls together. I hope to have most of that finished within a week or so and will post some more pictures then. I am building it basically by the instructions. I quite like the kit. More pics to follow. Thanks, Karl F.

Guys Why don't we start an official thread for SRMW right here. I have both the C/D Shop and the Brick Roundhouse waiting in the wings and i'd love to hear from those who go first. I lusted after one who shall remain namelesses Brick Roundhouse until I got mine. Now I lust after others of Bob's kits even though I have no room for Mills. I wish someone would do coal on a grand scale. Well here is to building SRMW stuff. Maybe others would join in!

Karl, can't wait to see some progress shots. I am building mine by the book too. It is a great kit and wish I had more time to work on it.
Wally, posting pictures of SRMW kits in progress sounds good to me, so post away. I too lusted after the brick roundhouse for a long time and finally broke down about a month ago and bought one with 7 additional stalls. Who knows when I'll ever have time to build it.

Rick Maybe if you decide you don't need all seven extra stalls I can ease your pain!

Wally,
I'm sure I won't be using all seven, but for the time being I'm going to hang onto them for a while. If I do decide to sell a few I will definitely let you know.

I am not familiar with this kit that you showed a photo of. Is the Diesel Shop? I have been working on Cambridge Crossing. I will post some pics of it when I get a chance.

Paul, yes it is the diesel shop. I had the name of the kit in the topic title but Wally had a good suggestion to make this a generic SRMW construction thread so I took it out. Please post pictures of your Cambridge Crossing kit here when you get the chance. I would be interested in seeing them.

Well, as I said in another thread a few days ago, I have both Lamson & Goodnow and Thorndike Mills about 90% complete. I stopped on both of them until I had more benchwork erected and knew exactly where they would be going. I'm still mulling over a couple of track plan ideas, so I haven't gone ahead with any more construction. Water (i.e. rivers) plays a major role with the final construction of both kits, so I have to take that into account also, as well as general scenic treatment.
Anyway, here is a "staged" photo of one of the Lamson & Goodnow structures.

I'll be watching this thread with interest, guys. Hopefully, someone will have some progress photos to show soon.

Hello All...
Thought I'd join in as I am currently building SRMW's Whitensville Spinning Ring Kit...it's a great kit. I am rearranging the building orientation as I need to fit it within the edge of the layout and some track, about 10"...one of the many useful features in the instructions is the multiple site arrangements, that you might otherwise not consider...I will post when I make some more progress.

Hi Folks, Kits being built!!...it warms my heart. Everyone looks like they are well on their way. If this thread gets going, I will try to check in once a week. Of course, if you ever have any question you want to e-mail me, go right ahead.
One topic ( of many) of particular interest to me is new techniques. Though I carry over many from kit to kit, I always hope that sharing my techniques will inspire others to develop their own. With many new paint/weathering mediums coming on the market, (not to mention those being discontinued), there is a constant need to refresh the techniques data base.

Hi Guys.
I finally have the walls up and I think everything worked out very well. I had a little warpage on the wall with the large windows, so I have a little "shimming" to do but I am pleased with how everything went together and how it looks so far. I am basically building by Bob's instruction book, but have deviated a little here and there - primarily with glues and paint - that sort of thing. The truss (only built one so far), went together quick and easy and the Chopper is handy for the styrene parts. Once painted I am certain the trusses will look really good - it is now quite apparent. A few things I did a little differently were:
I used a mix of Polyscale Caboose Red + Soo Line Red + Tamiya thinner (1:1:1) for the primary brick colour.
The wood was first weathered with a mixture of Windsor Newton Artisan (water mixing oil paints) Paynes Gray + Indian Red + 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. I washed this on to the wood with a brush. Let dry and then put the mix of Depot Buff and Tamiya thinner over top. It is a similar process to what is listed in the instruction book. I was happy with the results.
I painted the structural steel for the shop crane in Poly Grimy Black and then weathered with Vallejo Model Colour Cavalry Brown - for rust and then drybrushed Vallejo Natural Steel for wear on the steel. I will later weather with Bragdon chalks.
I was afraid to put the doors on, so for now I have left them off while I am still working on the main building, as I did not want to damage them - it would be just my luck if you know what I mean.
I used Elmer's 5 minute Epoxy to glue the 4 main building parts together and it works very well. Just becareful to use the correct amount. I used CA to glue pretty much everything else.
That is about it. Here are some pics as to where I am at. I will continue on the trusses this week and then adding the machine shop. Will post more as I am further along. Still need to finish of some areas of brick and do the outside weathering. Still lots to do...but very fun kit. The mixed mediums is great.
One not of caution - take care as to properly line up the wood supports for the crane inside on the two long walls. I had to pull two off and reposition them as they were originally a little off. Somehow I just did not get a couple of them in the right place.
Great kit Bob!!!
Thanks, Karl F.

Guys altough I enjoy seeing all the great new projects being built I'm wondering if they would not be better served to be put into a seperate thread for each type?? I know it is very frustrating for me to have to go thru anywhere from 20 to sometimes 60 pages to find something I searched for. Keep up the great work so far they all look fantastic. This of course is just a suggestion so that future RR will also be able to see your fine work without frustration. Pat
