This is in response to a request from our friend Hakan.
Due to a scale pandemic along the NB&FH, the wee folk alienated in their shops, have been burning the midnight oil, building away at anything that they can imagine and has not as yet been built. As a result, we are going to start out showing some of the vessels that now grace the waterfront. we will start with the smaller ones and work our way up to the big boys.

Well, this is embarrassing, It's been so long since last I posted, that I have to be retrained. Please bear with me as I stumble through my re-calibration.

Folks, OK! I re-found the path through my aging brain neurons!
The picture below is the tramp schooner "Oliver" as she picks her way from the dock and avoids the traffic near shore. She is totally scratched and built on a whim.

Here's another view from above decks.
Next, is a steam launch with the captains family aboard.

Well, this is just a start, we'll have some more pictures as time permits.
Hope you folks like what you see,
Greg R. President & Chief Wheelknocker New Baltimore & Fair Haven Rwy.

Folks, Thank you for your comments, as they are appreciated. I received some questions regarding construction of my mini-fleet. In regards to the Oliver, the vessel started out as a wooden waterline hull shaped with my belt sander and further detailed using Strathmore 140# paper. If you look at the images below, I think you an see the evidence of paper, This paper is then fortified using water thin ACC which gives it the "body" of styrene. (A word of caution, when soaking paper with ACC, have a fan blowing away the vapors that are given off as they are noxious.)

As you can see from Oliver's coming out party close-ups, the details are fabricated from bass wood, brass, styrene and whatever fills the bill.
When the rigging, sails and details are added, Oliver really comes alive. After adding these details, I decided to heel her over a bit. So back to the belt sander. I then CAREFULLY sanded an angle on the bottom of the hull at waterline to simulate a sail loaded with wind. When the experienced crew are positioned just so within the boat, it appears as though the sail is full of wind, when we all know it is just an illusion.

Well, I think we another boat to talk about. This time let me introduce you to Jenny Ann. She is a steam powered coal scow that probably doesn't stray too far from the shore line.
Looks like the Capt. has just taken on a load of coal and he's headed off to see if he can make some sales.

This is another project that started on a whim. She is made from this-n-that mostly basswood, paper and various castings found in my junk boxes. Here are a few views over my shoulder at the workbench prior to launching her.

Some of you may recognize the Woodland Scenics vertical boiler and a pair of their steam engines joined together. The mast and boom are intended to be used to load/unload cal, but in a pinch we could hoist some canvas if needed. When I was wearing a uniform, I was told to "maintain rigid flexibilhity at all times" I think our captain may have coined that phrase.

The coal bucket was made from a Bic pen barrel and styrene with a soft wire bale. Also present is the first mate before he was painted and weathered to match my imagination.
Here is a better view of my custom steam boiler and engine combination. You might also be able to see the ship's wheel(courtesy of Vector Cut)

Very nice! Here's a possible suggestion for shooting photos with boats under sail or power. I saw a marine display where the modeler used loose baking soda to form little bow waves and wakes for his boats that he moved around the diorama from time to time. The baking soda was carefully brushed into shape to form a little wake and then easily vacuumed away after. The Jenny Ann might not move quickly enough to generate a white wake, but Oliver could.

I like them all.
Is the little launch a kit? Did you say and I missed it?

Bill, Good idea, I will have to give it try. In the mean time, I ran across a couple old shots of the Jenny Ann you might like.
The crew of the Jenny Ann has just about finished loading from the coal dock and is getting ready to make way.

Looks like the captain has cast off lines and is pulling away, ready to sell some coal!

Mike, The launch is a kit. It has a cast metal hull and a boiler included. I do not rememer who offered the kit. I purchased it , . . . maybe 20 years ago. Greg R.
