That was a fantastic build. You may want to see the Dolly Varden in Mario's website; http://www.modvid.com.au/ then click on "Mario Miniatures", then click on "Worldwide Modellers" and scroll down to Dolly Varden.

Hi Craig, have you looked at our site we made our boards with wood/ply C shapes the only problem is it takes 2 people to move them. The size can be adjusted as long as you can get them through doorways without damaging the paintwork, the boards are stacked 2 high on wheeled frames that make it easy to move in our club room, and used to move into the van as shows. We have 5 shows booked for the layout this year and several for the next couple of years.

Here's some more ideas. Scroll down and you will see some fine examples of shadow box designs. https://www.facebook.com/chrisnevard
Yes they are OO scale and UK outline but the concept is what you are looking for.

The modules for Dolly Varden were 6.5’ long, and able to be lifted and moved by one person if required (as we often did when moving sections around in each other’s work spaces...John and I live a bit over 2 hours drive from each other). The end plates were ply to help with track join alignment, but back scene and roof panels were made with foam core to keep the weight a bare minimum.
Cheers, Dan Pickard

Or you can see it in person at the Suncoast Center for Fine Scale Modeling in Odessa, FL.

Hi Craig, Been lurking on various forums and looking at lots of stuff...just not posting much (I find I do quick and easy posts on various Facebook groups instead these days, mainly bring lazy rather than making a bit more effort to load stuff onto forums). Still modelling, in between organising the Australian Narrow Gauge Convention (about to do my third one in a row). Have a home layout I sporadically work on, which is still shadow box style, just not a light and portable build. I did build a lighter sample version of what my home layout is about, called Kinmont, which is a cameo style little module to display some of my scenery and the types of equipment I will be running on my bigger home layout. Kinmont is nice and portable, fitting in the back of my car easily, and only takes about 30 minutes to set up. Currently it is about to be expanded to a second module/scene with a fellow Aussie modeller who shares the same interests. Link below is of some footage that someone shot at a recent exhibition. https://youtu.be/8vzNwd1tFzk
Cheers, Dan Pickard

Craig H I'm mortified you are ignoring my suggestion!! But I'll be watching to see how you progress. I believe shadow box layouts are an excellent idea. Good luck.
