I hope and pray that these wildfires can be brought under control soon and that there is no loss of life and no more property lost.
I know people on this Forum were concerned for their Australian friends during the bushfires a couple of years ago when we had such a tragic loss of life and property.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

I'd love to pass on to you some good news. Former NMRA National President Eric Lundberg's home was 100 feet short of burning down. He and Sandy are OK and still evacuated to a hotel. Tom Lawhorn and Bob Foltz came within 5000 feet of losing their homes. Tom got a call while at our OP session at Greg Longs tonight that he could go back home. Bob Foltz and his wife Linda are still out of their house evacuated living in a hotel . I have heard from Bill and Christine. They are fine and living in a Hotel
Our Pueblo Model Railroad Association (most club members are Division 17 NMRA members) have set up a fund for Bill and Christine to help with their expenses. We will accept monetary donations on their behalf and get them a check at the end of July. You can send them to me: Bill Shanaman/ PMRA President, Greg Long /PMRA Secretary or John Denny PMRA/Treasurer.
Make checks out to: PMRA or Pueblo Model Railroad Club.
Send to:
Bill Shanaman, P.O Box 172 Sugar City, CO 81076-0172
Greg Long 791 Galileo Place; Pueblo West, CO 81007
John Denny 611 Lone Cowboy Drive; Pueblo West, CO 81007
Sincerely,
Bill Shanaman PMRA President

It has been tense for many here in Colorado. We were evac'd during the infamous Hayman Fire, and our former address was in an area evac'd again this time. My brother-in-law, a member of the Guffy VFD, has been extremely busy.
We've been watching this unfold along the Front Range with great interest, and sadness for all those affected as well.
Unfortunately, many of those who lost their homes disobeyed the cardinal rule of living in this type of country - your home must be fire-defensible and within easy reach of a water source.

While it is great news to hear that people did not lose thier homes, if the fire burned within 100 feet or so, they will have to be prepared for landslides when winter comes. At least they will have time to prepare.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.

An update is in order from the fire in Colorado Springs.
Bob Foltz and his wife Linda are back in their home as of Monday. No damage to their home. Tom Lawhorn and Bill Galloway are back in their homes also as of Monday no damage. Eric and Sandy Lundberg are still displaced and living in a hotel. They did get to visit the home Sunday. The home has some shake roof damage as indicated by Eric's last email and maybe some smoke and ash damage to the attic area. The whole Lion's Gate area was devastated and about 140 homes that burned of the 174 total homes have open gas pipes. So until they are closed or capped Colo. Spring officials will not let residents go home. The electricity and water are all underground and on. Bill Poley and Christine are living in a hotel. I have not received anything further except they are both fine.

Further update. Eric and Sandy are now allowed back in their home as of today. However, the insurance company wants them to stay out until they have inspected it. I have not heard from Bill Poley. He has a lot on his plate at this time trying to replace his home and such.

For what it's worth, we returned home July 15. Our insurance adjustor was amazed our home survived at all; there was fire on the roof (#@**&*# shake shingles) but the stellar fire department stood its ground and we were saved. No smoke or soot damage except around one window sill. Our new garden hoze "went to war" during the firestorm and hasn't been seen since. I'm sure it did its part in fire supression. 80 percent of our neighborhood disappeared in five minutes (141 homes). The Sandric & Lake Superior was untouched, although it's been idle since before our initial bail out June 23 (we were evacuated twice and spent a couple of weeks in three different motels including the Bottom Feeder Lodge and the Rats' Run Arms).
It's been an ordeal but we are steady and standing. Thanks to all for your concern.

Eric, it's good to hear from you and to know that you, your wife and your home have faired well in this horrible incident.
Bill, thanks for the constant updates. Some of those pictures are incredible! It is difficult to comprehend that kind of devastation.
I served in a volunteer fire department here in NJ for 10 years way back in the day and I found myself in the thick of a forrest fire one day. While it was nothing in comparison to what you guys had there, I can tell you from my experience that fires such as these are fast and furious. Those who fight those fires are to be commended, and it appears from the pictures that they did an excellent job holding their ground.
My best wishes to all those who were affected by this horrible incident.

To kind of put a top on this, the Pueblo Model Railroad Association/PMRA presented Bill & Christine Poley with a check for $2300.00 at the op session I was at today. Thanks to all that donated. He was very surprised, overwhelmed and thankful. We told him that he couldn't just spend it all on trains. He was very grateful. Again, if you donated thank you. If you passed on thoughts and prayers, thank you. Bill
