If you have not heard the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs, CO. has now claimed homes. Some of these homes affected are homes of some of my model railroad buddies. Three others are under mandatory evacuations and displaced. One thinks he may have lost his home and the other 'may' have lost his home in the Mountain Shadows/Peregrine housing areas that were hit by the wildfire yesterday afternoon when a dry thunderstorm gusted winds to 65 mph and moved the fire out of Queen's Canyon and into the housing developments burning many homes and the Flying W ranch. Authorities are, of course, withholding details of what home were burned and which ones were not as the assessments are still being done. My hope is that all have not lost their homes. Please pray for those folks and everyone else affected by the wildfires in Colorado. Thanks. Bill

There's been some discussion on the CM Yahoo Group, as this fire crossed the former Colorado Midland mainline, and several of that group's members have evacuated. Best wishes to all concerned!

I've seen pictures of the fire on the net and saw houses up in flames.
A real tragedy.
I just hope everyone responds to the evacuation orders and gets out safely.
Homes and layouts can be rebuilt, lives can't.

Most definitely! Fires crept real close to Boulder one year when I lived there ... the whole ridge along the edge of town was glowing. That was quite alarming, but not on the scale of what's happening there in Colo. Springs right now. Prayers, best wishes and hope that all who can will get out / stay out until it's safe.

Very sad. Two of our sons went to the AF Academy, so we still get e-mails from the Academy Grads Assoc. This morning's e-mail said that the Academy is on alert for evacuation. It also said that the fire could likely continue burning for another few weeks and might affect the training of the incoming cadets.

Some good news. One of our ops group guy's homes, Eric Lundberg's home, narrowly escaped the devastation. If you take a look at the photo link, from the bottom of the photo, take the first street right. Go to the first street left/up and go to the second cul-de-sac. Eric's house is the third house to the right at the top of the cul-de-sac. But look at the devastation to all his neighbors homes that did not escape the flames. Everything north/up and most of the structures west/left side we not so lucky. The devastation continues north and east. It went right around him. I would imagine that his home has smoke and heat damage but at least it's still standing.

Not so sure about a couple of the others fellows homes yet. I hope to bring good news about them also.

Tragic. We had a situation where all homes in one street were lost, except one. Those people decided to move out. Too much too take.

Last week I ordered some stuff from Ulrich models. The sent me an e-mail today apologizing for the delay, but they were helping some friends pack up their stuff and get away from the fire. I hope all works out for those folks.

Eric Lundberg - wow, that is a blast from my past. Glad to hear he and Sandy made it through.

Unfortunately, one of our group did lose his home. Bill Poley is the current memeber of the Pike's Peak Division of the NMRA and Pikes Peak Model Railroad Club in Colorado Springs. I will send an email to the NMRA President and the RMR Super to inform them. The others have weathered the fire storm with their homes intact.
