Our old house was built in 1894 and the panelling was verticle 4" t&g kauri with 8" skirting and about 3 by 2" chair rail. It also had a picture rail. It was definitely original because of the amount of bora in it! I agree that the 'proper' panelling would look good, especially in this sort of establishment, but I think you will find that verticle panelling has been around a lot longer than the1970's. In the 1970's they put on sheets of plywood with grooves in it to look like t&g. They also covered up all the lovely panel doors with thin three ply. That decade has a lot to answer for!

Cheers, mark.

Nah - another one of those local lingo things.

In the US - normally - when someone is talking about paneling they are talking about the sheets of plywood with grooves or another pattern on it.

The actual T&G types are older, but we normally refer to those by their pattern - or as just the generic beaded wainscoting terminology.

You know, I like talking construction anecdotes too, and maybe we can all stop by the gift shop later and have a Heineken and buy some RR-L souvenirs, but with all due respect to Cameron, whose build thread this is, could we stay on topic?

Thanks.

You guys are great. Just spent 2 hours on the phone with Larry, he is mentoring on my AP. He brain dumped so much great info on me, took a ton of notes.

He pointed me to some prints that would make a nice wainscot. Also some online furniture.

Off to read the furniture link ya'll posted.

Thanks Guys
Cameron

The interior link is great thanks guys!

Here is the beginnings of my new scratch-build project. A MMR friend has offered to mentor me through my MMR process and this is going to be my first effort.

Had not done casting since I was a teen, so was a little leary, but it worked out well. The C&S Section House kit, long out of production, from Model Masterpieces is providing the plans and the master for my foundation castings. Making the mold was the hardest part, used wire to support master in mold box.

Here are the molds, also molding a bridge abutment at the same time. Estimating the casting resin was giving me fits. Finally got to where I have enough molds I cast an extra whatever with any unused resin to not waste.

Using the Micro-Mark kit and it has been very good (based on my limited experience).

Here is the results. I was very pleased. The abutment is nice and the foundations will count towards the scratch-built portion of the structure.

Will start a new topic on the section house once I get underway.

Thanks for all your help and comments.
Cameron

Brief update on Selena's (Barkeep's) Tavern.

Added Lighting and wainscot to walls. Looking much better. Used 1.5 volt mini-lamps from Minitronics with nice brass shades. Thought about replaceing with led's but wanted to use these up. I may regret it later on if a lamp goes out.

Here is wainscot added. That was an excellent idea from this forum, thanks guys.

Here is the lighting added. The tint adds that olden look to the scene.

Here is lighting and front windows in-place.

Another view

Adding the windows helped me see how much would be seen so I could judge just how much detail to add. Hoping this will count as one of my kit builds for AP. I assume interior detail counts a super-detailing.

Still need bottles, furniture and people, but getting there. Having alot of fun. The interior posting ya'll pointed me to helped spark ideas.

Thanks Cameron

Is your Saulenas' Tavern inspired by George Sellios' Saulenas' Tavern or are they both inspired by another Saulenas' Tavern?

Your construction is looking nice. I like what you have done with the art in the bar! :)

Ben,

It is a kit from Bar Mills which I think was inspired by George.

Once I find proper tables and bar stools will add people, bottles behind bar and on bar. Also signs on outside, maybe a outside light in front of door and maybe up stairway.

Thought about Piano but not sure it would not be too crowded.

Will add speaker and play sometime of honky-tonk music if I can find a good sound clip. Use mp3 player (cheap on ebay).

Slow going but fun. Also doing Mooney's Plumbing (no inside detail).

Thanks for commenting - Cameron

Slow progress. Ordered some figures for the Bar from Blue Moon. The guys over in HON3chat suggested them. They are 18mm which makes then 5' 8" tall, which should be about right for 1900. Plus in building will be look pretty good.

Here is the set:

Will probably only use about 1/2 of the figures due to space. Bar mirror will cover the portrait over the bar so may just make the back shelves to fit around the picture.

Got some good ideas for bottles and glasses, will try them out as Prieser has their stuff on back-order.

Thanks Cameron

Just catching up on this ... looks to be coming along nicely, Cameron. At least you have/are making sound imaginative progress and something different with much visual interest. Keep at it, dude.

Best wishes,

Delbert

Thanks Delbert!

Little people arrived so wanted to get a feel for what it would look like. Kit above had about twice the items I needed so am set to do another Bar somewhere. The piano, bar and bar shelves too large for what I needed so using just 2 tables, some of the bottles, and 10 or so figures.

Here are some pictures giving a feel for what it looks like. Built the back shelves to frame the picture of "Madam Lash" of HON3Chat fame.

Shows trial placement of figures, new shelves in back. Figures are 18mm so a little shorted than HO but inside a building work well.

Full front view with front windows in-place. Figures really make a huge difference, very satisfied.

Front door view. Once painted, with light in-place I think this will work very well. Front is only temporary, the seems should not show in final.

All-in-all happy with results. Hopefully will begin painting next week. Next step is to find small speaker and wire it for the honky-tonk sound effects. Then can assemble rest of the building. Hope this turns out well enough to use as one of my super detailed builds for AP.

Any suggestions for Colorado circa 1916-18 music?

Thanks Cameron

Hey Cameron,

This will look great when completed. With the addition of lighting, it will really attract the viewer's attention. Kudos on your use of imagination and originality.

No ideas for the 1916-18 music other than to try a Google search.

Always looking forward to your progress.

Keep at it, and keep it fun ...

Delbert

Thanks Delbert.

My mentor on HON3Chat found the following. They have sound modules that work for all kinds of natural sounds and man-made:http://www.millermodels.com/sounds/saloonm.wav

Thanks Cameron
