This is so much better than the standard FSM version ... really outstanding work, great vision, wonderful personal touches. Looking forward to more.

Karl,

It's a show stopper already. The great brick and concrete work perfect. Love those loading docks.

Hello folks,

Got some more done but it's been kinda' hard to do. My hands are getting worse and it's difficult to hold things that I'm trying to cut. I said the hell with it after talking with Postal Karl today and I did show some progress.

I'm changing the canopy on the rail side of the building and decided to use corrugated on the top part. I tried (not mine) a new way of coloring it and was OK with how it turned out...

This was the stuff I used and the order they were applied...lined up in that order.

1) Krylon Gray primer #51318
2) Grind salt on
3) Mist with hair spray
4) Spray with Krylon #1317 Ruddy Brown Primer
5) Brush off salt with shortened stencil brush
6) Immerse in Jax Aluminum Black
7) Mist with Testor Dullcote
8) Apply A/I wash (not pictured)

So, I use a lot of pencils and when my 25 year old electric pencil sharpener croaked I looked for a replacement. Well, the electric ones are way too expensive for our budget so I looked for alternatives and found a real gem. This thing cost $3 and I never got a sharper point with the electric one.

Interesting way of doing the metal roofing. I've been using the old Radio Shack solution, but my supply is starting to run low. I've also got concerns with the chemicals. I am not familiar with the Jax Aluminum Brightener. Where did you find that product, Karl?

Your build is coming along rather well, Karl.
Any chance on getting one of those painted, chewing bis-kits before they are all gone?

Hi Danny,

The stuff is called Jax Aluminum Blackener and it really works. I've got plenty of the Radio Shack Etchant but don't use it since I found this product. It works much faster and there's no smoking involved. I got it from a jewelry maker's supply store. You can buy it off the net but the freight charge is like $25 bucks.

Woud anyone really want to be in a club where the only members were Karl O. and Karl S.?

Karl, I knew this would not be a typical Yehudah's, but this is coming along as one of your best, and that of course is saying something. After the way you colored the bricks, I am most impressed with what you did with the loading docks and platforms.

Also, I will for sure try your corrugated metal weathering method. In addition to my whiskey soaked brain, I'm pretty sure some of my aging infirmaries are due to a few overdoses of Archer's Etchant. Again, nice work and I hope to talk to you soon.

Hi fellas,

Progress is slow...but at least a little steady.

The out buildings are together and some details have been started but lots more to go. The buildings need weathering and detailed and the clerestory on the main building needs much more to finish it.

I took a little break and built a Jordan delivery wagon with a trusty steed for my buddy Karl S. (PostalKarl). The rig on the horse will be connected by some HO scale people...he's a very patient horse.

Thanks,

Karl O.

PS - Sorry, these are crummy workbench photos with unbalanced lighting...not something I like to do.
