Hello, I'm new to this forum, but I have been a member of the Atlas Forum for some time until their shutdown. Anders told us about this site on a Model Rail Radio of show discussion and I thought I would join this site.

Before I start posting pictures of our groups progress on our modular, I thought I would give you a little back ground. Our group was formed by about a half a dozen people that use to belong to a HO Scale Brick and mortar club, we left the club because actions that where going on in the club that we did not care for. We decided to form our own group; we did not want a club because we did not want to go thru the same items again. It was discussed to make a modular layout, several ideas were passed around, I recalled a series of articles on a module set called Glenn Frazer. I showed it to the group and then we decided to do Free-mo Standards. The Free-mo also appealed to us because there were other Free-mo groups around the country that were not part of clubs. Three of us went down to St Louis to A RR Prototype meet where several Free-mo modular where on Display, The next time I went to St Louis two years later I took my First Module down to St Louis and set up with them. I have also set up with them a third time also. Other set ups my modular have appeared in were the Detroit, MI NMRA NTS, and Milwaukee, WI NMRA NTS.

Out of the original Group I was the only one so far to build some modular, however since then we have had three others to date that have joined our group and built some Free-mo modular. We have been working on these new sections for about a year now. I will show both photos and you tune videos to show the progress of our modular sections.

New modules under construction

Corliss Staging,
this yard is built with 3 hallow core door panels and a 4 foot transition section

Hotbox,
this four foot module contains a hotbox detector at milepost sixty six dot six, this hot box actually counts the axles on the equipment, will also throw out a hotbox from time to time

Bain,
a Midwestern town that has a few industries
Scrap yard, a curved module that has a lead into a scrap yard

Curve 1,
basic scenery curve modular

Curve 2,

There are a number of people here who do modular, ranging from NMRA HO standard (me) through Free-Mo to overseas modelers who either build custom modular exhibition layouts or participate in local modular communities.

Mike,

Glad to see you posting here.

As James said, we have a healthy number of members who are into the modular scene. I'm sure that some will jump in with links to their threads.

I was going thru some photos of some of my modeling, this is a MilWaukee Road Triple Combine.

I still need to add window glazing, and find some small gold numbers to do the car number

Another locomotive I purchased in the Summer of 2011, I've added a decoder and now I am adding LED Lighting to the 2-6-2. Caboose I painted a year ago and I have yet to decal it

Found a few from 2010 when I went to the National Train Show, here is a few pictures of the SUV loaded with my Free-mo modules

Here are some pics from our setup

I have reduced the first batch of layout pics from NTS of our 40 x 110 foot Free-mo display

The first three of the SUV used to transport my stuff

Setting up on Wed. & Thur the rest.

US 69 Won an award also, will post when I get info correct.

Mike, I appreciate seeing all the photos. I don't think most of us who enjoy seeing the modular setups at shows have any clue as to the behind the scenes planning and work required.

Hi Mike!

Welcome to the board, glad you're here!

It's great to see the set-up photos from the legendary Free-mo layout built at the NTS in Milwaukee. My module set "Little Arlington" was also in that show. I think I see myself off in the distance in one of your photos.

For those who haven't heard about the Milwaukee layout, here's a video made by Model Railroad Hobbyist about that layout, starring Mike:

Mike,
Welcome to the board, nice photos by the way.
We have other people on here that do free-mo also.
I have admit that I dont know much about it. Do all free-mo groups use the same set of standards?

That was a nice setup you guys had there. I was there with our club layout just on the other side of the "Scenic Express" sign in the last picture.

Your pictures of the suv remind me of back before our club had it's trailer. We carried about 28' of layout in the back of an S-10, and another guy had an extended full size van that was so loaded down, I'm surprised he could even steer the thing

Thanks for sharing your work and photographs. I sent a link to this thread to the members of the NMRA Keystone Division FreeMo group - perhaps it will inspire them. It's nice to have another FreeMo group posting on rr-line.

Here is a few pictures of the Free-mo set up in Kenosha Wisconsin. The show is sponsered by the Garden railroad club of Kenosha and has layouts in two Museum buildings that are next door to each other.
