Greg
I have been looking at this kit since it first showed itself on his web page. I will order one and the lighting kit and get any supplies needed so I'll be ready in the fall when you start.

Great news Mark! Are you still going to get the lighting kit? I think we are going to start in October after the "Fine Scale Expo" is over.

Yes I've already ordered it. Is it necessary to buy a miniature chop saw?

Mark, those are very handy to have,I use one all of the time now. Before I purchased my little chop saw, I just used a small mitre box. So in answer to your question, they are nice if you have one, but you can certainly get by alright if you don't. Great to read you have ordered the lighting kit! We are going to have so much fun building this kit all together!

Hi everyone, okay the fall is now here, and it's time to begin the start of this build. I am really lucky this time,I have fellow Canadian from the Ottawa area (Chooch41)Brad Lobregt joining me on this build!Welcome Brad! I know others expressed interest about joining this build as well, so please jump right in anytime you feel ready. Dario, has done such an amazing design job with this kit I plan on building just like he has. I begin today by building the base for this diorama. The instructions suggest starting with a piece of 3/4" inch plywood cut to 28" inches by 24" inches. Here is my piece I cut using my table saw.

You then need to cut 2 more pieces, this time using 5/8" thick wood instead. One measuring 24" x 10" and the other 18" x 4" inches. I then glue the back of these pieces and then brad nail them onto the 3/4" inch plywood.

You then need to cut 2 more pieces just the same size as the last 2 except now using 1/2" thick plywood. I then glued & nailed those on top of the other 2 I just did.

Then you will need one more piece for the future roadway. This piece you will need is from 1/4" thick plywood and it measures out to 28" x 4" inches.

Again gluing and nailing this last piece into place. When completed, you should have a diorama base that looks like this one.

That's all for now!

Dallas,I guess that makes you a knotty boy then. I know, diorama base construction is not the most glamorous subject to start with, but it had to be done.

And away we go. Hold on everyone, it's going to be a great ride. I will be starting on the weekend and post some pics for everyone. Damn it's good to start building this kit..... A side note to what I am going to do with my build. My wife has a best friend that lost her brother to ALS ( Lou Gerrig's Disease) about a month ago. I never met him, but I did see a gorgeous canoe that he built in the basement of his dad's house, once when we dropped my wife's friend off after work one day. This canoe was gorgeous. So I am going to change the name to DaPonte's boat and net storage. To change it up a bit more, I am going to add a small shack where the weeds are and call it Johnny's canoe's...or something like that... you get the picture. So I dedicate this beautiful kit to my wife's best friends brother, Johnny DaPonte. Let the games begin..... and let's get lots of people involved. These kits can be a bit intimidating, but hell, with a guy like Greg leading the way, it's just like having him looking over your shoulder while you build. The train is leaving, jump aboard and let's enjoy this fall/ winter with a great group build.......
