Good morning all ... thanks for the coffee ..

Raining here, 1/2" down and more to come.

Marty: apply a dab, spread that and move on. It sets up quickly. The fast tacky must set up very fast. Great glue. I used it on my last two big projects that had lots of boards.

Have a great day .....

Well, spent a frustrating afternoon with 2 davenport chassis.
The one from BigLars had poor quality control in that one of the leads to the cct board was hanging loose and the other hadn't been caught properly by the plastic cap - I soldered them both in the end as the 1st plastic cap was nowhere to be seen.
The second one was the Vertical boiler chassis - I found that I could fit the original cct board and decoder around the motor. so wired up the pick-up leads and thhen 2 new leads from the board to the motor. Had to strip down the chassis and ease the gear wheel on the motor - grease the cogs and re-quarter the wheelset.
finally got it running, but it's not as smooth as Larry's - seems to have a big-end knock. - checked all the plastic cogs, but no sign of damage. doesn't knock in reverse.
Need to get a circle of track made and the see how it beds in.
Looks good with its new headlamp working.
Cheers
David

David,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Since the unit was new I did not think to test it.
As for the other unit, I have one that does that same thing (only in one direction). It was from a very early run of Davenports. The other seven Davenports I have run like champs.
I think Andy had the same issue and removed one of the gears, I am sure he will comment.

Good morning gang....Coffee & water over on the stove. A bag of fresh bagels
w/cream cheese & spreads on the counter, along with fresh tomatoes, thin sliced onion,
capers and fresh Scottish salmon!!! Enjoy......
Yesterday was spent moving the old gas range from the kitchen to the basement and
installing it there. (Not fun!!!) At 72 years old, you realize soon, that all your
"Get up & Go", "Got up & WENT!!!!"....I fought that for a couple hours - having to cut out
part of the oak floor to get the range to the proper height.
Next the microwaves were swapped out in the kitchen, above the new range....
The rest of whatever energy I had left, soon followed the "Get up & Go" out the door.
Anyway, it's done, the wife is happy, and I am sure I will enjoy many good meals to come.

On the MRR side: While looking through some threads this morning, I noticed that a lot
of modelers who "weather" the rails, fail to polish the tops....The top of the railw
would be almost shiney from constant use....JMO.....
Enjoy the day, I will head to the lake this afternoon, to elax for the weekend.
Maybe finish wiring the 3rd district....

Good morning all ... thanks for the coffee Bill ...

Hope your back is o.k. Safe trip up to the lake.

I agree those rails need to be shiny in a display if representing a used line and rusty if shut down. Of course if you are running trains clean rail would be nice ....

Have a great day ...

Good morning everyone and thanks for the coffee and bagels Geezer.

Another scorcher today with two more in the forecast.

Geezer, glad to hear you survived the redecorating. No modeling for me as my Sister is in town and we had a lot of catching up to do. This weekend I hope to finish the Foothill Model gondola kit so I can get it in the paint shop with the other pieces of rolling stock that is ready for painting.

Have a great day everyone.

I am finding access to the forum very slow. Are others experiencing this?

Access to other sites is fine.

indeed, but mine had a very noticable crack, if there is no crack whatso ever it could just need a run in, and if its a brand new unit this could be the case, if however it is cracked, you have two choices, one, buy a new wheel set from bachmann, $15 and hope at least one has a good gear and swop the axle over (i have read of people getting new ones with both gears cracked) or remove one gear and remove the rods, they wont work right and bind up as i found. rather annoyingly after doing all that and converting one to run with out rods i relisted i could have done so by swopping one axle out... oh well.

had a busy day working on layouts today, we had the hall from 8 till 5, made the most of it. gah still worn out. getting there though, im out tomorrow with becky, and im going to pick up some pastel pencils, ive seen some HO modellers use them, wanna give them a try.

yes, im finding the forum has lag too.

Also posted in the general discussion forum, but I thought the On30 guys that are working on southwest desert layouts would appreciate what somewhere between 600 million and a billion bucks can buy in the way of a 1:1 layout.

I recently had my first opportunity to get a good close up look at the scenery and buildings in the new Cars Land at Disney's California Adventure Park. The scenery is based primarily on the movie "Cars" with a healthy dose of real Route 66 desert scenery. They got it spot on. Unfortunately I didn't take my camera in with me but I will next week.

this video concentrates on the background scenery as you enter from Pacific Wharf http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=pPvl6iQfa1A&feature=endscreen

a closer look at the scenery, RR content at 1:06 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd9417N-sCM

This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1UqXI43zWs primarily shows the transition from twilight to night lighting. Each night at sunset they turn the music to shaboom and start lighting the neon on each building one at a time as they work their way down the main street. You can also see some of the night lighting on the canyon and rock work

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5j4Cgv13VfU as you can see they did note the rr presence. and just before they find it, you see a flash of them standing on a corner in Winslow, AZ

BTW, while at Youtube, hop on over to the Buena Vista Street Videos to see some 30" gauge street cars. While the wire is accurate in all ways as far as hangers, pull-offs, etc, it is dummy. The cars are battery powered.

Afternoon All, I hope everyone survived the bad storms last night.

We spent the morning cleaning up all the tree branches that blew down. No damage to the house, jut the neighbor's fence and house.

Everyone have a good day.
