I always wanted to build a 1936 White Model 706 into a Rail vehicle ever since I saw this rail vehicle done by Les Davis some years back. (Picture #1) And, for some history of the White Motor Co. Model 706 Tour Bus the White Motor Co. Model 706 Tour bus was developed specifically for sightseeing in the National Park System of the United States of America. In 1935 four manufacturing companies agreed to participate in product evaluations at Yosemite National Park to determine the best vehicle for touring in western national parks. (1936 Proto and 1:48 scale model pictures #2 and #3) I could not find a model made in 1:87 scale anywhere from anyone, so I found this Roden Kit of an Opel 3.6-47 type W39 Bus. So, this kit will just have to suit my needs. (Pictures #4 and #5). History information; Opel Blitz 3.6-47 type W39 Ludewig - German staff bus of the WWII period, designed on the chassis of the well-known Opel Blitz three ton truck. Series production lasted from 1939 until 1943, at the Ludewig plant in the German city of Essen. Almost three thousand units of this type were produced during this time, which were employed at every front of the war, as a conveyance for officers and an ambulance, as well as a staff transport, a telephone exchange, a radio station, and more. My Opel Blitz Tour Rail bus construction is to follow, in between the usual Spring/Summer fun times, and lawn mowing. I know alot of you take a break from modeling during these Months but, please check in form time to time. Thanks

Louis, Oh boy another project...this is the same bus used in "where eagles dare" with Burton and Eastwood? Yeah it should be a good project. I will be here with my thinking cap on. The Railbus was in WV yesterday...lots of people liken it.

I drove one of those red buses, #101, in Glacier National Park the summer of '84. Every day over Logan Pass along Going to the Sun Road. Great memories! Dave K.

Well, we will have to see how it plays out on this build. I want to use that Bachmann Hi-Rail bus drive on this one, but I think the wheel base is a little off. I'll have to do a modification to make it work. That was a great movie BTW.

Louis, I was in WV at a trainshow and took a big batch of models to show.
Well I will ride shotgun on this adventure. Larry is right..first design consideration should be a plow, unless you are modeling in Cuba. Even the RGS Geese had plow options. Next design option would be enough weight.
Now lets get on the road, daylights burnin and you got some buildin to do.

I see, it was a train show. Very good then. And of course there would be alot of liken going on. It's a beauty! I don't know about a snow plow on this build. I just want me a railroad tour bus for the LP's, during good weather.

A little research shows the bus in "Where Eagles Dare" was a Graf & Stift OGW-120 bus shown in picture #1. This is a picture of the bus in the movie clip and a small picture to the top right, showing the bus type used. Second and third pictures are movie clip pictures.

Louis, Okay you got us, good research...I was also going to ask if you have a color scheme for your RR? as you can see from my colors they are usually a orange/yellow and red. I use floquil UP Light with a gray undercoat.

Hi Louis,
I'm with Andy.
I'll be keeping an eye on this one too. Interesting vehicle!

Louis, This should be an interesting build. There are some of the White busses available in 1/43 I believe. The Opel Blitz looks like a good substitute for HO scale. I saw one of the White Tour busses parked at Little Round Top Mountain when I was at Gettysburg a few years ago. They re really neat looking.

Those buses are very close in style. I had first thought that the one I got, was the same as the one in the movie as well. I have no color scheme when it comes to the rail vehicles. However, it is good to know the color you used because I like that color on your 36 White. I had thought of either the red and black fenders, that I do like for rail vehicles. Or, go with the Yellow and black like you did, where it is going to be a tour bus anyway. I am leaning toward the yellow.
