I've had much fun with my Silver Valley RR. But there was one problem. With modules you have problems to get any grades. So I came to the idea to build a permanent layout in this room. It was the pdf-file from an article from the late John Armstrong in MR Jan 1962, "To Hardscrabble, the hard way: a track plan". There he describes the PUEBLO & SALT LAKE RR in a 11 x 12-foot room.
Here's my idea for my 13' x 16' room. This is the lower part with the staging yard. You see a lot of dual gauge track and turnouts.

And the part with the narrow gauge line to the second level.

But for the first time I will incorporate a few of my modules. You see Salina and Fiddletown at the second level. This way I can operate the layout and do some scenery.

And this is the room with backdrop and the first parts of benchwork.

update
Now all segments are finished (made by my son Benjamin) and on their legs. I'm busy with the plywood sheets.
This will be the future staging yard Pueblo / Salt Lake City:

The hidden mainline under the window and the narrow gauge line through Cameo Canyon on grade.

The future town Esperanza:

Wolfgang,
You and Benjamin have done an awesome job on the benchwork so far! I love your plan, you've used your space very well. Keep it coming as I'm always excited to see what you're up to.

Thank you.
With the Chemo therapy I'm so down, no power for woodwork. Without Benjamin this would not be finished. But soon comes track laying and wiring, my part. :-)

I also think this is a great looking start and am looking forward to your turnouts with all those duel gauge tracks. Tom

I built the NG portion of the RR in my mother in law's basement in HOn3 back in 1972-1973. Lambert Code 70, Balboa C-19, PFM Benson Shay -- how times have changed!

Great start on the layout Wolfgang. Your son did a good job on the bench work too. I like the way you modified the track plan. It's going to fit the room size nicely. I'll be watching your progress with interest. Thanks for posting!!
