Great to see so many builds goin on for this challenge. Mentioned before that i needed a tannery for my layout, Testard & Son shoes & boots need their skins colored somewhere..
Like all structures it's gonna be a scratchbuild one but as always I take a few pictures to get my ideas from. Try to combine these to one build..

Been thinking about the design but it will have a big brick chimney and waterfront based, maybe partly on pillings and a deck..
So my add to the challenge will be the Hetfield Tannery

Martin, great idea. I'll be watching and following along, because it will go great on my layout as well and have a place for my tanbark cars to go.

I love this project, Martin. Although a bit on the big side, I really love the first group of buildings.

Great choice for a project, Martin. The tanning industry drove much of the logging in Pennsylvania back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The forests were full of hemlock trees back then, and the bark was used in the tanning process.

When I finally get working on the HOn3 logging branch, a tannery is a must, and a modest sized one appeal to me.

Thanks guys, hope to start on a mock-up soon. Finishing the wharf scene is eating me, so would be great to have something on hand inbetween..

Pff had to dig deep to find this thread but I finaly made a start on the tannery. First mock-ups of the buildings are cut. The building across the track is for tanbark, the main structure is the leachhouse with a part for finishing and the office. Still have to add a beamhouse, a smaller structure for receiving the hyde and a combined brick engine / boilerhouse..we have a start !

And now I look at it it even works better as imagined. Blockes parts of the view on town and from other angles the view on the curves in the corner..

Looking good already. Are you going to have a pier with, say, SOME of the hides, bark, or coal arriving by boat? If so, some sort of hoist would be good.
