Thanks! The first picture is somewhat of an experiment as the track is only a few inches from the front of the layout: the foreground rock is an actual rock strategically placed to hide the facia of the layout. Next time I roll the layout outdoors I'll revisit some of the composistions that didnt work and try to incorporate a few more foreground props. Currently, none of the pics have any Photoshop alterations, but one thing I may do is play with the color a little as the canyon seems a little too washed out in the mid-day sun...but then again the washed out look kind of makes it look hotter and drier.

Wow! This is wonderful. You should try a shot from down low looking up- that would inspire a sense of wonder.

In a way, this reminds me of that famous Stop Gaps Falls picture by John Olson. So legendary, it reportedly was the photo that inspired Malcolm Furlow to get into the hobby.

Here is a photo of the Stop Gap falls, by John Olson.

I am sure there are copyright issues involved here and that I may be disciplined, and apologize for that, but I feel strongly that beautiful photos like those shouldn't disappear, but continue to be a source of inspiration to everyone.

Arthur-I've never actually seen that pic before, very dramatic. I'll see if I can find a photograph taken from above as it sounds like it would be an interesting composition...

Arthur, although I'm not very fond of scenes with several layers of bridges, I must say this John Olson's scene AND picture is absolutely wonderful.

Frederick-I agree with the typical "multiple bridge shot" seen on many model RRs not being the most convincing. One of the goals I had when I designed the Torres y Prietas was to give the impression of a railroad running through a landscape, rather than a few mountains and cliffs forced into the spaces in between the tracks.
