Sometime ago I started a little HOn30 layout with continous run and a few spurs. A forum member recently posted some photos of his Sn20 project that inspired me to re consider this layout. I often look at it, wondering when I will get time to finish it. I think it's gunna be a retirement project when I'm too old to move around the other larger modules.
Here are a few early photos of my empire. "FRocks" are used to keep it lightweight
cheers

I added some more weeds plus that all important part of the modern day scene, litter, to the layout last night.
This morning I have made a rudimentary screen for the fiddleyard, I was planning to operate from the front at shows but the HST's 2 car ruse is a bit too obvious when the fiddleyard is open to view.
I think the layout has now reached the stage where doing anything more to it will just be undoing previous work so I will declare and exhibit it (Saturday 13th August at Crewe Heritage Centre) as it now stands.
I know most members are too far from Crewe to get to the show, so you can see the layout here instead... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlw-_ZKXBhc

Here is my contribution, an N-scale pizza layout in a tool box. The track is Tomix fine-track, 140 mm (about 6") radius. The layout measures 12"x17".

Carl's website changed the way I look at model railroading. I'm more of a builder than an operator, so the pizza style serves me well. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with different scenic treatments.
Will post more pictures as the work progresses.

Good to see this John! A layout in a tool box is exactly what Carl's site was all about.

John that's looking great, will the lid close with the lighthouse and that 3 story building in place or do they have to be removed?

Yes, it will. The layout is actually built in the lid of the box, so there is about 4" clearance when it's closed.

I just got orders to go back to Korea next June, so now I am thinking of building a little 2x4 HOn30 layout when I am there. The re-release of the old school mini-trains has got me plotting again...

I've just spent a few hours playing with a couple of IKEA APA boxes with a view to them forming the basis of a folding layout. Adapting them involved removing a couple of bits of timber and hardboard (I think you guys call that Homasote), joining the boxes with a pair of hinges and fitting some lights.
Having done all that I posed some stock and buildings inside to get some idea of what might be possible:

There looks to be some potential there. My thoughts are turning to a shunting puzzle along the lines of Enigma Engineering by Paul Gittins which appeared on Carl's site on Scrapbook page 70 see http://carendt.com/scrapbook/page70/index.html.
Off to play with my trackwork drawing software to see exactly what will and will not fit in a box a tad under 4'6" long by 10" wide and 14" high. I may be some time, but for a change I really want to plan this well.
