Okay, 2011 participants, this will be the thread we use to post pictures of our visiting cars.
Our cars should first hit the road this week or early next week for an early April arrival. After that, we should send each car on its way at the end of each month.

Let's kick off this thread by posting some pictures of our interchange cars on their home roads prior to their ten month journey.

A few pics of my Interchange car, a C&NW 40' boxcar, as it gets ready to make it's journey across the country.
First stop Massachussetts, home of the Boston Red Sox!!!!
Looks like local law enforcement is still intent on making sure Turtle & Preacher head out with the car.
Of course, if you want to protect the womenfolk in your area it may be best to keep the doors to the car locked tight.
Here we see Officer Jones keeping an eye on the car to make sure the boys stay on while yardmaster 'Fingers' Foley
heads up to the yard office to fill out the final paper work before the C&NW F-7 pulls the car onto the interchange
track.
One final disclaimer, the people of the Valley and the HKVRR are not responsible for any mayhem the 'boys' or their
'pets' (yes, they're still coming your way also) may cause along your railroad.
You've been warned!!!!!!

The interchange train is on the move. Engine 0510 an Alco RS2 has the short 6 car train of interchange cars today.
I caught the famous New Haven PI car #31416 on the train today. It is headed off line again with some fine
International Silver goods.
Along with a couple of her sisters of the same LO class PS1 covered hoppers the 2011 interchange car heads out to
New Haven to the car float service of the PRR for the first leg of the journey to Milwaukie, OR.
Here is the end of the train with a PRR round top box car and the New Haven class NE5 caboose
With Preacher, Turtle and friends headed out of the northeast to the rest of the North American continent railroads,
it's time to put the valuables in the safe, lock up the women folk, lock the doors and shutter the windows. The shot-
gun is loaded.
And, oh yes, you guessed it, NOT a Yankee's or Red Sox fan.
Let's Go Mets!

I caught the tail end of a freight leaving the main yard of the Jersey Highlands Railroad today.
First were two reefers of local interest. The Van Housen Brewing Company is from nearby Butler, New Jersey and is home to
the now famous Dutchman Ale.
The Macopin Lake Ice car belongs to the Macopin Lake RR, a short line owned by the NYS&W RR. 95% of the traffic on the MLRR is from
the ice house at Macopin Lane (now known as Echo Lake).
The coal gon belongs to the Susquehanna Coal Company from Pennslyvania.
Finally the star of the group and another local car. The Bloch & Guggenheimer pickle car out of Roseland, NJ. B&G products, including pickles,
are still on your local grocer's shelf.
The B&G car is now on its way to Chris in Philadelphia. This Lackawanna freight will drop off the pickle car in E.Stroudsburg, PA where
a Pennsylvania RR Belvidere-Delaware division train will take it to Philadelphia via Trenton.

All,
I eagerly await the car from Bruce. It may need to make a short side trip my my McKeesport modules where I am building a fictional Heinz plant.
I did send out the Gatsme reefer to John in Florida today - he should see it by Monday at the latest.
Oh yeah...

Looks like it's going to be another great summer of watching the trains. Looking forward to the trip guys as I really enjoyed last years trip.

Kris is right... it's going to be another great ride. I'm envious of those who can participate this year. Or maybe not,
what with Preacher and Turtle on the loose.... 
I might have to lock things down just on general principle.

My interchange car is a USRA 55 ton two bay open hopper. The L&N had thousands of these.
Built in 1922 and serviced in 3-1937 the car was manufactured by AC&F and has a capacity of 1880 cubic feet,
a Miner ratcheting hand brake, and used the original and early style wine door locks. It started out as a data only Accurail kit.
The body was painted but the frame and the rest of the plastic parts were unpainted shiny plastic.
What's up with that? That would never look right.
At first I tried to remove the data that didn't match the decal set with a tooth pick and cleanser, but that didn't work.
I managed to rub all the way through the paint and got shiny spots. So the whole car got a paint job with a Krylon red primer spray bomb.
Next another mistake.
I tried to put the decals on with out gloss coat under them, and I got lots of tiny shiny bubbles in the decals after I put the solvaset on a couple
times.
So then I dull coated it hoping that would make the shiny bubbles go away and it didn't.
So after that I couldn't remove the decals and try again.
I didn't have another set for the USRA type car anyway. I tried to cover up the bubbles with weathering.
That helped but didn't fix the problem totally. Well hopefully it doesn't look to bad.
Here is my car on the M&WV(Maryland and West Virginia) layout waiting to be loaded. Its in its typical coal service:

The L&N has a relatively small(compared to it coal traffic) slag hauling job in Copperhill TN that needs to be done so the thrifty L&N
didn't get special cars for the job they just took some coal hoppers and filled them up to their weight capacity. Slag being much
heavier that coal the hopper cars were only partially filled. Slag was used for ballast and concrete additive. I suppose it could be
used for large gravel also. The slag will be loaded and shipped from this loader:
Its first destination will be the Jersey Highlands RR.

Had a call from 'Fingers' Foley over at Knox Yard this morning. He said the C&NW 40 footer left for Massachussetts and points
south and west this morning in the middle of a snow storm. It should reach it's destination on Tuesday or Wednesday. He also
told me to keep film in my camera since there will be a bunch of off-road cars showing up in the months ahead. The first com-
ing in from the great state of Michigan.
Also, for those of you who reside on the dark side of baseball fandom...Preacher & Turtle will be holding old-fashioned revival
services when they get to your area to bring you over to the Red Sox.
Looking forward to a great interchange this year and some great photos and photo opportunities.

The car headed for the Kentucky Southern after being pulled out of the branch line by Big Creek and Ebeneezer F3 #66. RKLX car 4087 with a
fresh batch of 'possum from the Road Kill Express will be on the next W bound headed toward Troy, IL.
RKLX 4087 is seen here being backed past a Kentucky Southern RSD-15 to the BC&E Caboose to heading off toward the yard.
Here the car is seen ready to move down the line. The brakeman is bending over looking to check that the coupler and air lines are looking good
before they highball away...
Railroads on the car's route are cautioned to maintain security from the likes of Preacher and his pal Turtle as this high value cargo passes through
their routes.
The car with the POGO logo is based upon a time way back in my career while I was assigned as an undercover narcotics officer. After regaling
the Metro Squad office with tails about encounters with certain marsupials that ventured along our patrol paths led to one of my mentors to
hang the name on me of POGO as my radio code name. The car is a redone Accurail 40' wood sided reefer with decals I made with my inkjet
printer and then weathered.
