thanks john.
finaly got my new leaves the in mail. so far tests have shown they do not bleed and colour like the noch ones. great.
just a shame for the most part i'll have to stick them down one at a time to not risk the noch ones bleeding anymore...
now that this layout is starting to come to a close, in readyness for the show, my mind cant help but wonder around, what to do next? same scale, but different gauge comes to mind, possibly on18. but what to do? i cant help but to try something totaly freelance so i can model all those export engines i like so much. would be an excuse to get alot of things out my system. like my strange erge to build one of the darjeeling break coaches... who knows!

Excellent, Andy!
The Porters are great! So is the rest of your layout.
I can't believe the change from the 'bare bones' of the two base-boards, when you first started to lay the track on this project about 16 months ago. I have followed it every step of the way, and cannot but admire your work.
It's all very well to look at a diorama, a model, or a complete layout, and say "Yeah, that's OK," but no-one knows, (and not even the builder remembers) how much work went into the conception, construction, and the ultimate realization of it.
My friend, you have done well, and you should be very, very, proud.
(Even if there are no kitty cats.)
I wish I was able to see Numpty's in the flesh....but it's too far to swim...
You the man!
John

thanks guys!
martin, its a backwoods side tank kit with a banta cab. http://www.railroad-line.com/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31345
thank you roland
thanks troels!
thank you for your kind words john but the scary thing is i can remember how much time went into most of the parts. it still feels like it was only yesterday i was laying track, or freezing my nads off making the baseboards. i have more trouble remembering where ive put stuff!.... but i am indeed proud, this is the 1st time ive put this amount of detail into a layout, my HO layout is "ok" its there, but nothing brings it to life.
so with that i need to make a start on the other board, today or tomorrow. was hopeing to make a start yesterday but i noticed the tree at the back had lent forward when i thought the glue had dyred so was propt up and reinforced with more epoxy.

so now that the camera has charged, here are the projects ive wrapped up this weekend.

now has some post and timbers and rope, left from its last unpoading, i thought this would be more interesting.
the bachmann flat car test bed
after painting and lettering, lost interest, i made up a load from a core of hardboard and covered in balsa, i straped it down with a thick polyester thread, this has no fuzz like cotton and has a slight rope look about it.
quick paint job on the bachmman ventalted boxcar, just to fill a gap for the show, will be given back to the club after. i added some boxes and stuff inside.
and finaly

the red davenport. weathered with carefully applied washes, one of whitch was a pastel wash. then dry brushed with an off red and pink to fade the colour. i couldnt find any screws that would fit the coupler pockets, so have to open the holes up for larger screws, this means the couplers do not move, but there is enough give in the couplers of cars to compensate for this. quite pleased how she came out.
so with those done, my current project shelf was looking rather bare, just the passenger caboose, and the hopper cars awaiting some coal (when i can find a lump or two...) looked about. and remembered i had started some time ago a bash of a fish belly gon car. following the idea from a magazine of basicly cutting it in half, and making new, wider ends. i got as far as cutting it in half and left it at that. insperation from a re-read of an artical in the annual, describing scratch building a fish belly flat car, dug it out, cut it down roughly. cut it down in lengh by 3 panels and fixed it to some evergreen plastic. and well a picture speaks a 1000 words and i do tend to ramble on.

and to give you an idea of what i started with

i need to add some NBW castings, steps, handles, break gear etc, but the basic frame is all there, as larry put it "old school" on30 model making

Nice work Andy! You need to find a cheap three pack of the old MDC short ore cars and tear into those.
