finnished one flat and almost done with another. they look pretty good in my eyes. windows and doors are grandtline from grab bags.

also started another flat yesterday

note HP sauce towers in the back ground.
also note how the track is fed.

ive made a start on painting the track, but giving the rail sides a coat of flat black acylics, and will weather fromt here, have also started on the sub ground for senecery by building up layers of card this will get a cover of plaster bandage later and painted.

Andy, the building flats look great. Ok, about the HP sause, it seems to be showing up quite often in your pictures so I'm assuming that you are using in in your modeling somehow. Are you going to let us in on the secret, or are you going to keep us guessing?

Andy, just catching up on folks threads...like your false fronts....purely a suggestion, why not give the larger building on the right side a bit more white paint....I'm thinking something along the order of dry brushing some white to give a a different look than the other, more run down building on the left. I would still want to see the weathered gray coming through...just think this might break up the "sameness" of the two structures....and while I'm at it...why not a simple painted sign on the larger building between floors.....black white letters on a black background could be easily done own your printer...thin down the paper and white glue it to the clapboards....again, just a suggestion to some excellent modeling...sully

i do need to, i gave the large one a brush of A&I (because i didnt stain the wood under) so i need to touch up the white again, thanks for point it out.
im not sure if the back of a store would have a sign? its one of the few things thats hard to come by in pictures. there will be a few company signs on the garage as they always seam to have them on all 4 walls.

ron, theres nothing secret about the HP sauce, it just taste bloody nice on my dinner :D since i dont have a bench i have to use the dinning room table, and since the layout is only a foot wide everything can be left on it. larry joked about useing it to stain wood, and ive yet to try it, maybe tomorrow.

thanks for the kind words everyone.

ive started on a dinner/cafe the building will be made to be removable so rather then foamboard, the major parts, i.e. the back and base have been made from 3mm and 9mm MDF and the smaller outer bit from foam board, have made a start on the clapboard, but ran out of my stock of prestained timber, so just stained some, and will 2nd coat it tomorrow. just for a change, may paint this one green :D

Andy,
I love HP sauce on bangers and mash or meat pies. The structures are turning out very well.

Nice progress Andy.

I though you guys were just kidding about the HP Sauce. Then I saw the tub behind the building. I googled it and found out what it is. It is not really available around it.

Then my other question, Andy, what is the orange UFO hovering over your buildings.

jim, thats the tomato sauce. :D

shurly you guys should know that sauce bottles work wonderfuly as background buildings? :D hahahah

got quite alot done on the dinner back, the walls are covered, painted/faded (thought it was too green) and ive gut some OO scale plastic corugated "iron" for one of the roofs. looks cracking with white trim, will post pics when its done/worked how to make it removeable.

also ordered some paint to weather the track following a guide in a british magazine, will pay around on a test bed before i let loose on the layout.

also ordered som bits from the states, mostly stairs, doors and some other lasser cut goodies from rusty stumps.

well this is the back of the diner

built on a base of 3mm and 9mm MDF because it will be remoable fromt he layout, since it will span the board joint.

i found a picture of a bar that had a mix of clap board and veritcal boards, id asume this was due to a repair, but i liked it and since just about every wood building on the layout will be clap board thought this would break the trend up a bit, plus i think it looks quite nice.
the in the little outer part i drilled down and epoxyed in a small nut, and a bolt can be screw in from under the base board to hold it in place, simples.

i may fade it a little bit more not sure yet.
also dry brushed the larger white building with more white, as jointed out it looked to "samey" as the smaller one, i did think this, but it took someone else pointing out to make me deside it was right.
but thats my weekends work.

just ordered some more wood. hopefuly a pack of 20 lenghts will be enough to do the farm supply store. and frieght depot. but i may do the fright depot in vertical boards. but not worriy about that till latter.

also flicked the pages of a book about industraial and mechanical modeling, found something i NEED to do to add some interrest to what will be the fright agents office/trailer/home more about that much later

Coming along Martin. Didn't know you were going to build a dinner. Now the HP sauce on the work bench for inspiration makes sense to me.

I like the green color, but I think some "whiteish" weathering will keep it in character. The different styles of siding gives it the haphazard feel that buildings of this era have. Different parts of the buildings were built at different times by different people, who usually did what seemed easist to them.
