The Bonaventure & Chmably (BOeC)

The St-Hyacinthe subdivision

I decided to gather and post previous thread here so as to be able to keep it updated as I
am going along adding to the layout and scenery construction

Here's a map of the area I am modelling.
From Montreal to Quebec city, It is proto-lance,
meaning I followed the general right-of-way and town location
with a bit of freelancing. Of course it is highly compressed!

I'll do my best to keep this thread updated as I go

Note: It should have read: Bonaventure & Chambly (typo error dhu!)

Some pics from early construction

The above tracks has been removed. I started to re-model some secene to better represent
the actual area, location and town. This was an area that was freelance and did not
serve any usefull purpose.

The town of St-Hyacinthe.

Again the tracks have been re-arrange to conform to the real thing

Here’s a roll by where everything is slowly coming together to create
a more “realistic” looking model: Weather cars, weather tracks, photo-backdrop,
grass and greenery etc.
This area has also change to better reflect the "real" rigth of way. A spur
has been installed. The backdrop, however, has remain.

Overview of the above section

Note: The lower tracks and overpass have been removed and
the area has been "filled" to be level with that perticular section
It includes a spur, industries etc.. (not finished yet of course!)

Older pics:

The station at Saint-Basile-Le-Grand.

This (and others like it) station is served by commuter trains and VIA Rail.
CN did make stops there in the day when they operated passenger service.

Note: Again this will be remodelled to be a fairly accurate representation of the real thing

Hi MLW;

Have seen some of you modelling here on this forum before; keep it coming! I really like the weathering of the cars, btw.

Nice layout and very nice pictures.

I'm curious about the trackplan. Is the layout around the walls of the room or are there peninsulas? What size is the layout?

Built a waterfront HO layout in Ireland http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22161 but now making a start in On30 in Australia

Syl,

Interesting changes that you are making. I, too, love the weathering on the freight cars.

The first photo (9402 pan shot) is amazing - when I first opened the thread I thought it was a prototype photo.

Keep the updates coming, enjoyable thread to follow.

The weathering of the freight cars is really outstanding, Syl. A great source of inspiration for those wanting to display rusty metal sides.

Thank you Neil

I do not have a trackplan at the moment but will make one in the near future.

The layout is around the walls, and the layout room is roughly 30 feet by 13 feet.

There's room to make it larger (adjacent empty bedroom -basement) I've been thinking
about it for a while (it's tempting!) but decided against it. The main reason is time and maintenance. A friend of mine has a real big layout. A full basement dedicated to his layout with a coresponding big house on top. It is pretty neat when we go over for operation session. However I noticed that it does required a fair bit of maintenance (cleaning track etc.) and it can take quite a bit of time to do scenery and the like. More time then I have at this point. I am trying to keep it manageable for myself and not get carry away with a basment empire which will remain in construction mode for a very long time

The layout used to have two peninsula in the middle with a scenic divider in the middle. One side did represent fairly well the area east of St-Lambert (Montreal) but the other side was too "freelance" for my liking.
So I removed it. I decided to make it more like the prototype without making it too "boring" and included freelance elements as well. At a glance it does look like the real thing and if you are from that area you would recognised it.

Thanks Dutchman

As it changes it does look much better.
I have some hoppers that will required
a bit of weathering in the near future
