Thanks for the support. I will check out Yorkes dinner idea. Our module group is getting ready for a display at Rail Fair this weekend in Roseville, CA so probably not much more to share for a little while. Scott

Hello out there in Fourm world. I have recently been asked about the size of my home layout and how it is configured. Since I failed to post a plan of my layout on my website (www.scottrobertsonon30.com)I went ahead and did a quick rendering that will help put a place with some of the pictures. I have attached the following image to share with all of you.

As my wife likes to say we own a train room with a house attached. My Never Done and Always Changing railroad is housed in a room about 383 square feet. I would say the layout is about 75% complete, although I am "always changing" things and getting distracted by other modeling efforts (module club) so it will be awhile before its is done - but than again, it is "Never Done" right? Scott

Hi Scott --

Really nice looking plan there! And what really stands out for me is the preponderance of city, town and rural scenery with the railroad "just passing thru" ... so often, we have an overwhelming amount of track and then try to squeeze in some buildings and/or scenery ... you've done a great job of making it look like a little railroad just chugging along to do its job.

Dallas: Thanks for the plan review. You picked up on my intent. I have also created scenic dividers so that you do not see past much of one scene or you are focused in one direction at a time. With added detail I think the railroad seems larger than it really is. Scott

Kirk's Wharf project continues. Now that Railfair is over I am back to working on the Wharf Project. Almost finished with the third building (see attached), one more to go (bar at the end of the wharf) before moving on land to the light house. Not sure what business this building is going to be. I just sort of made it up as I went along adding the elevator tower and bump out room on the back at the last minute to add more character. I suppose it could be a plain old warehouse. Any ideas from anyone?

Scott, how about a fishing net supply house? they hang nets from the top of the elevator section so they can work on them?

Scott, that's another fine addition to the wharf. Thanks for showing it to us.

Joe: All of the buildings shown in this thread are scratch built using high resolution photo textures I download from a texture website, mount on foam core and then add details and weathering. I start with a real rough idea of the structure and then I just make the building up as I go along. Scott

Scott,

Although I've been following your thread, I just went back and re-read - the wharf complex is fantastic. The combination of shapes, textures and placement lead to a realistic complex with character.
