That's really a super building, Scott, done in a way quite unusual to me, but very convincing. Thanks for sharing your methods.

I was fooled also. It would take me weeks to do what you did in an hour. I may have to rethink the way I do things. Roland

Thanks everybody. It really is a time saver, and has freed me up to work on many projects or just to have more free time. Just got done "designing" B & S Fertilizer the next wharf builing. I guess I should finish Wood Bros. and my engine house beofre starting another - or not! This hobby really is an addiction. Scott

Scott, I have tried to what you did and have not been able to figure out how to stretch the pictures to work. Any help you could provide would be great. I sent you a PM; I have some pictures of a rusted shed in Alaska that would make a great model. Larry

Larry: What is a PM??? Regarding picture manipulation: The textures I use are typically a fairly decent part of a larger piece of siding or whatever. In order to make a larger area I will first stretch in or out from the corner ONLY in order to get the width of the planks or roofing material the right size. then I copy and paste trying to over lap and change it up a bit. Depending upon the image this sometimes is a little limiting. For pictures of actual structures I JUST stretch from the corner until I get it looking right (typically size up a window or a door that I know is about 7' (1.75" on the screen). Again, I do not do this in Photoshop. I simply insert the picture into Microsoft Publisher and scale, crop or stretch in that environment. The most I ever do in Photoshop is clean off the surrounding in a photo and/or create a PNG file that has a transparent background. Email me your photo and I can see what I can do with it. The photo should be as close to straight on as possible and eye level. The CGTEXTUREs,com site has a great tutorial on taking your own photos and making your own textures - you might check it out. Wood Bros. Limited is about 90% complete. Still want to add some roof vents and a stack or two with wire stays. Had a "lemonade from lemons" moment last night with the roof. After struggling with how I wanted the roof to look I settled on old tar paper. However, I quickly realized my "stash" of roofing paper was running dry and would not cover the entire roof. Then, I thought why not make it look like it is a roof under repair? This allowed me to introduce more materials and break up the large expanse of roof. I intend on having workers on the roof, trash from the roof on the wharf, etc. - a mini-scene in a scene. Here are the latest pictures on this Saturday morning - another gorgeous day in Northern California - sunny and an expected high of 74 degrees!

Amazing Scott,
Playing with a publisher program now to see if I can do anything even slightly similar

Don't you just love those ah-ha moments? Your building and roof are looking great! I can’t wait to see a rickety old ladder for those workers to get up on that roof. Glad it's not me up there. Are you going to be able to finish the wharf module for the Roseville show? Take care,

Glad to see I am inspiring others to try this technique. Alas, the wharf will not be ready for the Roseville show. However, I am shooting for an event in Sacramento in January. Attached are pictures of the "finished" structure before final install on wharf and other details to be added (rickety old ladder, etc.) Next on the agenda - B & S Fertilizer! Stay tuned.

Scott, The building is great but the roofing is sheer genius. I don't think I've ever seen this before. Roland

Don't believe him about not being ready for Roseville. He will have this and two others done.
Just kidding Scott.
