JUST EAST OF AND AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE LEBANON YARD IS THE SMALL TOWN OF BREWSTER. SO
HERE'S A SHORT SEGMENT ON THE BEE'S, . .AS IN BREWSTER AND BRIDGES. THERE ARE TWO BRIDGES
SPANNING THE SANTIAM RIVER AT BREWSTER. SOME THOUGHT HAS GONE INTO THEIR TYPE AND/OR TYPES.
AT LEAST ONE WILL BE OF THE TRUSS TYPE (BELOW). . .
AND THE OTHER MAY BE OF THE SAME TYPE, OR OF THE PLATE GIRDER STYLE BELOW (ALSO IN
THE LOWER RIGHT, ABOVE):
AT THE EAST END OF BREWSTER, THE TRACKS VEER RIGHT INTO SHELBURN, BUT NOT BEFORE
CROSSING THOMAS CREEK AND SUCKER SLOUGH. BELOW, DEAN HAS BEEN AT WORK ON THESE
SMALLER STRUCTURES.
THE FINAL RESULTS ARE OUTSTANDING BOTH AT TRACK LEVEL. . .
AND FROM ABOVE:

The small bridges are perfect and I congratulate you on the seamless work fitting the rail across the span.
Thanks guys for the updates -- I followed the former thread -- reading the entire story one evening.

THE LAST THREE PICTURES OF THIS SEGMENT ARE OF SHELBURN. THE EAST END OF SHELBURN IS
THE TEMPORARY TERMINUS FOR PHASE I OF OUR LAYOUT.
IN THE FOREGROUND BELOW, A RUN-AROUND SWITCH WILL BE USED TO TEMPROARILY TURN TRAINS BACK
TO THEIR POINT OF ORIGIN. HERE, THE VIEW IS LOOKING WEST FROM THE EAST-END OF SHELBURN:
GOTTA LOVE THOSE FANCY 'S' CURVES:
ANOTHER HOLDOVER FROM 'OLD' BAYVIEW IS THE GRAIN FACILITY:
BTW, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF IRVINVILLE, MOST OF THE RUNS IN THIS SEGMENT ARE
BETWEEN 25' TO 30' LONG. MORE PICTURES WILL FOLLOW, BUT THEY WILL BE DOWN
THE LINE.

Allen, thanks so much for these updates. Your progress is amazing, and the quality of work equally as impressive. I especially love the bridges crossing Thomas Creek. That will be a great scene! Keep the pics coming!

We got some very encouraging news last night regarding this Highway project that could threaten us. The manager of the community center has been to all the planning meetings presented by the Oregon Department of Transportation. He said that IF the highway was to be built, it would be built in segments, and the last segment that would take out the community center building wouldn't happen for at least 25 years.
He said the chances of the highway being built are very slim because of the cost involved. The alternative plan is to widen a major surface street that is one block east of us which won't threaten us at all, and money has been earmarked for that.
One thing that will change is the street access to the Club, right now there are three surface streets that you can use, once this widening project is complete, there will be only one accessable street available.....that's ok.

Alan, you guys are doing some fantastic work down there. Most impressive. We un's at the Mt Hood Club are finally gonna get onboard with DCC and will start after the conversion of the Mt Hood RR next month using Digitrax. We are going that way as we already have two small sections up and running with Digitrax.
One of our members was there recently taking some notes on you guys and how the DCC installation is going. He was most impressed with your organization!

Good to hear from you, Don. Too bad our clubs will not be using the same system. Our fellows decided before we broke ground that our system would be NCE. BTW, you and anyone from the MHME's are welcome to come by and visit. We normally work on the layout on Mondays and Thursdays after seven pm. I would like to come by and see your club's layout in the near future. Also, you might remember our upcoming swapmeet the second Saturday of March at New Hope Community Church. Hope to see ya there!

It's been a month since the last post so here is a brief up-date on what is going on.
The wiring is moving along, and there is still some trackwork to be completed. We are still looking at mid April for the official first train to run on the layout. Then the prep work (Car and Routing cards) will need to be completed before we can start any prototype operating sessions.

Rick,
I wonder if you can answer a question for me? I have been following this thread from the beginning and think it is absolutely great what you guys have done.
I notice in the last few posts, the placement of some wood bridges. The rails on these bridges don't seem to have any anchor points or rail spikes, how are they kept in alignment and fastened to the wood ties?
I'm in the precess of building a few trestles and was also wondering, how and at what point the rails are added to the bridge deck?

The rails are secured with micro spikes to the cross memebers on the deck, the above pictures of the trestles were shot before the rails were spiked in.
Once the trestles were placed in the creek bed and aligned, the flex track was laid with the ties removed on the section of track that will be attached to the bridge deck. We then secured the flex track on either side of the trestle to the homosote using silicone caulk that dries clear.
Then spiked the rails to the bridge deck. I think I got the sequence right.

The celebration of the first official Train to run on the layout will happen this coming Thursday April 22nd. It should be fun.....its been a long wait.
