Thanks Mark. I sure wish it was only a story. The poor house diorama is next.

Regards,

Thanks Trent. Yours already shipped. We packed it on the Wa Mu last week. Oh, that's right .... never mind.

One of the new things I tried on this build was to leverage my waterfall experience in a different way, creating flowing water out of the bailers bucket

and better yet, out of the deck washer's hose.

That washing down the deck scene turned out pretty good, especially with the naked eye.

Thanks KP. Now, speaking of well done, how about them fish!! I found a weed with little seedpods, which I had to pull off the stems carefully with tweezers to keep the pods from breaking. I then spray painted them grey, then touched up with a little silver. The results turned out looking surprisingly real (much better when looking at in person). You can see them in this unloading scene, in the back of the boat and bucket.

Also, a great story line to accompany the diorama.

Thanks. Jim and I both can get much done and working together we can get even better and faster results. As I mentioned in previous threads, team building can really make for a fun experience and improve the quality of the results. Plus, I think we are getting better.

Hi John. Thanks. I understand that wiring challenge. I am in the same boat. I am in the process of drilling and adding my layout wire drops, but keep getting distracted by diorama and scenery things (something I would rather do). I really need to get that done.

Hi GreggW,

I'll trade you a hundred Wa Mu for a hundred Leman Brothers? I hope that poor house diorama has a few spare bedrooms..... However, I think it would look appropriate for the era (or any era) you are modeling.

What did you use on your diorama to dam up the sides/ends before the water (Envirotex?) was poured?

Regards,

I see what you mean about being able to take a large model and with a little creative kitbashing be able to make it fit almost any space....

Hi John. Thanks. I really like this FSM kit, but that conveyor makes for a long structure and a challenge to kit bash. This build took this "challenge" and turned it into a focal point by using the differing elevations to create the need for the conveyor, then opening up the views so you can see it working. Note the fish moving up the conveyor in this picture.

There is also a fish load chute off the back tracks, where fish can be brought in by rail, dumped into the chute, which then falls down onto the rising conveyor.

Think of the many opportunities you have on your waterfront and how other "non-waterfront" type kits can be modified to fit your needs and scenes.

Gregg, I'm with Peter that this diorama is something to behold! I really enjoyed the the extra closeups and the way you have used everyone's comments to expand on the 'story line' in pointing out some of the finer details in each of the additonal pictures of this outstanding diorama. I really wish that there was some way for a major news or magazine to pick up this diorama and the associated story line. I really think that it would entertain a lot of people.

Hi Louis. Thanks. I have not seen this FSM Rollin Saywer kit built in anything but the standard kit design arrangement, so changing this up on different levels in a different arrangement was fun. The challenge was to change/improve the structure layout, without loosing the great lines and overall look. Some of the changes are obvious, others are more subtle. For instance, on the back side, that big loading dock roof was removed so one can better view the shipping activity.
