I finished the exterior of the Lake Loudon Grocery for the Finish One Up for the Summer Challenge. Here is what I am doing on the interior: This weekend, I worked on the meat and fruit/veggie areas and started the toilet. The fruits and veggies are made from chewing gum. Danny

Really great interior decorating, Danny! I have never heard of using chewing gum to make details before.

Wow!!!! Danny,
That is a very impressive interior.
When you say you scratch build you aren't kidding.
Scratch and crew building at that.

Who would have though of making fruits and vegetables from crewing gum.
Very creative and also very realistic.

Looks like a small store we visited in Maine when I was a kid and the only thing missing is the penny candy section.

Question on the cash register.
Like how did you model it?
I have a couple in my interiors but they do not look anywhere close to being as realistic as yours.

Oh yea, better clean that bathroom sink before the health department shows up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Danny,

We have a thread totally devoted to interior decoration. Some of your pictures (and descriptions) would make a great addition there!

Here is the link: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7418&whichpage=1&SearchTerms=decoration

Thanks guys. John, I have tried to keep as much scratch built as possible. So far, the the only thing in the interior that is not is the stove.

The cash register is nothing more than a "block" of strip wood cut down at an angle. The "thingy" on the top where the number would be is another piece of stripwood. The handle is bent wire and the area where the keys would be is a paper cut out of no particular subject...just something to give the illusion of keys. Danny

Bruce, once I finish I will transfer them over. It looks like it has been a long time since anything was posted there.

Danny,
Looks great!
Why chewing gum instead of clay? 'Cause it dries hard quicker? Do you prime it before painting.
Really slick.

Outstanding detailing Danny, really very impressive work. Everything looks like it should/would, how did you make the sacks? A great start and very innovative use of materials. The counters and displays are fantastic as well as the details on/in them.

Looking forward to more great pics of this scene.

Wow Danny...awesome detailing!! And to think I've been throwing away modeling materials all these years! Having "visited" many of these country restrooms in my life I can verify the realism of that sink.

Great realism! Looking forward to seeing more...

Thanks everyone. Terry, I used chewing gum for two reasons....it was handy and it was cheap! ..I used a brownish grey colored gum...(not the pink) and it needed no primer.... just used craft paint...... another thing: It did not need glue. Actually, I would have used modeling clay, but I did not have any..... but I think I like the gum better. Danny

Karl A... the flour sacks are 1/4 x 1/8 basswood (for HO scale) cut at about a scale 16 inches long. I took a razor blade and shaped the sides to look more like a sack (quicker than it sounds). I painted them all antique white which was almost the same color as a flour label I found. I resized the flour labels on a program called "IrfanView" and glued them on the "sacks" I stacked them by gluing them onto a piece of thin card before gluing the card to the inside of the room.
