I have found that polystyrene thermal insulation (Styrofoam) is excellent material to use for scratch building brick walls. It takes some practice and patience with an X-Acto and a ruler but you can get fairly good results. The attached photos are of a 1:32 scale urban deli that I have been working on which is 50% complete. All of the brick was carved into the foam board. The mortar was made with a watery mixture of spackle. If anyone has used this process in HO scale, please post some shots. I doubt I would have the patience or eyesight for anything smaller than O. I used this stuff for my 1/16 scale cobbles. Had planned to try it for a stucco over brick wall, now I gotta! Not sure how/if I could use it in 1:48, but its worth a try. You've captured the feel of the ghetto in your artwork! If you haven't already done so, strongly suggest you bring your work to available shows. Your work deserves to be noticed. Dave - I have displayed models at NNGC 2005 thru 2007 and at the Craftman Structure Show 2007. Funny you should mention OK Harris. I have never displayed anything there but I visited the museum a couple of weeks ago to see an exhibition of 1/12 scale scratch built vehicles by Tim Prythero (http://www.timprythero.com/). I will be back there in November to view the 1/24 scale urban environments of Al Wolfson(http://www.alanwolfson.net/sculptures.htm). Check their sites. Both are excellent miniature artisans where we all can draw some inspiration. Looks like he could do so again at this year's Convention , if he were to attend . Great looking brickwork , Don . Now you will have to do a bit more explaining on how you achieved it . I tracked down your peanut butter lid challenge piece and enjoyed seeing it one again. One correction-- OK Harris is a working gallery, not a museum.
