Not much to report, but I did manage to lay the cork for the Mosquito Flats area of the layout.

Coming into Mosquito Flats

Staging (Lac La Hache)
I can see some tie laying in the near future.

The track alignment in Mosquito Flats is an interesting challenge with the 2 curved switches that run into two #5 switches that in turn creates a crossover.

The trackplan at Mosquito flats showing the new track arrangement.
In order to build this section of track I decided to build one of the two curved turnouts along with the two #5 turnouts and crossover as one unit. In order to do this I will build it at the work bench so I would have access to all sides of the track work during construction.
I needed to find a piece of pine to build the trackwork on. I found this 1"x10"x4' pine shelf at home depot for less than 3 dollars ($2.99)

Next I plotted out full size the templates I made for the switches and tapped it to the board.

Then it is just a question of fabricating the parts. I first spiked the PCB ties to the plan. I had to make a few of my own as the length needed was longer that the PCB switch ties that I got from Fast Tracks. I then proceeded to cut and file rail and using the template as a guide soldered the various components to the PCB Ties. All spacing is checked with a NMRA gauge. Here is where I am at the present time.

More to come as construction continues.

Ron I've always been fascinated by your meticulous trackwork. The facing frogs and cross over is going to be a true test of your abilities. So far, looks great. Peter

Hey Ron. Your track work is looking good. One question... do you file the rails with the fast tracks products? Or do you file it free hand? Thanks in advance....

Mark, Frederic, Rick, Peter and Brad, that you all for your very kind talents.
I decided to do the easy parts first.
Brad, I use Fast Tracks PointForm jigs a lot as it saves a ton of time. I have been know to "eyeball" filing rail if I don't have the proper PointForm jig. Those tend to be "one of's" as I don't want to spend the money if I'm only going to use it only a couple of times.
A little more progress was made this evening, but not enough to post yet.

A little more progress on the trackwork for mosquito flats.
I decided to make my like more difficult by building the "diamond between the two turnouts and crossover as one piece. This ended up being a lot of file, test fit, file some more, test fit, file even more....well you get the picture. Here is the final result.

Here is what I got accomplished last night.

Another evening and I should have the crossover finished. After that it will be finishing the curved turnout and adding the guard rails.
