Over the last few weeks I've been able to make a little progress. All the track is now installed in Beckton minus the turntable and tracks for the roundhouse and enginehouse. I've got all the turnout linkages installed, and about 50% of the wiring done. I've painted the track and have ballasted the back industry tracks. I've even started putting the roads in. Below are some of the various shots around the layout before painting the track, and then starting to put some of the buildings back. Plan on doing some scenery work around the buildings and getting the roads painted up.

Thanks for taking a look,

The layout is looking awesome, Dave. I really like the large size of many of your buildings (such as the freight house in picture #2.

This is really an impressive layout
It looks just great with those big stations and long sweaping tracks.

Dave, impressive! What is the size of your layout room? I've got a friend with a 10'x12' room and he is (like so many of us) trying to cram too much (HO) stuff in to the space. I've been suggesting to him a possible switch to N scale. I'll have to hook him up with this thread.

Al,

The area that is in the photographs is 32"x17' but is 5' wide for that last 2' where the Helix and engine facilities are located.

The room itself is odd shaped:

In a few weeks I'll begin the benchwork on the otherside of the room. Most of the layout in that part of the room will be double decked. I'm going to put the Helix in the closet along with a short branch going to a Cement Plant/Quarry. The upper level will have one town as it re-enters the room, then the main line will go into the mountain where staging will be. Also that town will have an interchange with a logging railroad.

My previous layout before this one was 10'x17' and is feature in the newest issue (Jan/Feb 2007) of N Scale magazaine. I have alot of photo's of that layout in my picturetrail.com account.

AL, I'll be sharing some more photo's sometime this week that will include some roads that I followed from an article that you had in Gazzette recently.

Wow, very impressive and great looking layout you have there. How are you controlling the turnouts?. I'm looking for some ideas of how to do it on the module I'm building. I want to power the frog, and was thinking of a slide dpdt switch mounted next to the turnout, but from your pictures it looks like you have pulled it to the fascia. Is it possible to show post a picture of how you have done it?

Jesper,

I followed a method that is described by Bill Denton, on his N Scale Kingsbury Branch layout.

below is the link to his web page, click on the Modeling Tips button, there you will find the method that he and I use. My last layout had around 45 of them, they worked great. On my current layout I've got over 40 of them in and operating and I do power the frogs and the spurs with the DPDT switch.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions let me know.

Wow, Dave, that yard area is impressive. The size of it makes for a believable look. Everything is really coming together on it, great work.

I've got some very basic scenery in around the Beckton Industrial area. The road has been painted a basic color for now. This is a lot more pleasing to look at then plain benchwork. Will be ballasting the main yard this week the following week I may try to install the platforms for the passenger terminal. After that I'll be doing a 180 and start the benchwork for the rest of the layout.

Here are a couple showing basic ground cover and a few vehicles.

Spent New Years Eve working on the backdrop a little. Figured I needed to get some clouds on it before I can start putting my building cutouts on the backdrop. Thought I may have over done it, then I stepped outside and looked around....think I'll leave it alone for a while.

Up next is to ballast the main yard.
