Hi everyone, I couldn't be more thrilled!

Following in the footsteps of my good buddy, Marty Phillips, on Vancouver Island...I applied to be an ambassador for the "World's Greatest Hobby" a number of weeks back.

Today I received my notification in the mail. I am now officially Ambassador 1331. Hey, that number is a palindrome...must be pretty lucky!

And wouldn't you know it...just last evening I drove down to Merrickville, Ontario with another good buddy (and fellow forum member) Chris Lyon where I gave a "tree-making" clinic to a model railroad group comprised of a number of youngsters and their parents. They are currently working on a 4x8 layout which will be raffled off at Railfair 2006 here in Ottawa. All the proceeds go to the Childrens' Hospital of Eastern Ontario...CHEO as it's known in these parts.

Chris brought his camera along to film how the both of us spread the good news of tree making! Have a peek!

That's me on the right showing a couple of the lads how it's done.

...and boy oh boy...are they keen listeners!

Now, it's my turn to watch them! This is fun!

This young fellow is certainly a "quick study"!

So he goes over to the club leader, Robert Peck, and he shows Robert a thing or two!

Here's Andrew Chisholm, the other club leader and Minister of the church where the clinic is held. Andrew's having a blast as he's never made trees before. He's an avid railroader and he currently occupies the position of NMRA Webmaster for the whole of Canada!

And here we see fellow forum member, Chris Lyon, having a go at a few trees!

Indeed, the room is abuzz with the sound of trees growing!

This young lad shows us one sampling of a fraction of the amount made over the course of the evening!

Wherever you see Mike...girls are bound to follow! Their tree-making skills are superb!

Indeed, a great time was had by all. Chris and I were thrilled to see the genuine enthusiasm in the eyes of the young kids and their parents came away from the evening having learned a thing or two as well!
Cheers, Mike

What a great way to teach skills and help encourage others to become interested in the hobby, Mike!

And congratulations on your 1,000th post. Reaching that milestone certainly didn't take long. Oh, and now that you've reached 1,000, be sure to watch your mailbox. Your bonus check went out in this afternoon's mail.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm a busy man. I have a railroad to run.

Mike,

Congratulations on hitting the 1000th milestone.

That’s great work you’re doing with those kids - or is it a sneaky way to get some trees made for your layout.

Mike, congralations on hitting 1000! And like everyone else said, you are definitely a great ambassador to the hobby. Thanks for your efforts.

Now, I have to give one of those clinics like you did so I can get trees for my layout!

Mr. Hammer, . .What a great way to invest your life! I don't suppose you have given any clinics on making fruit trees, have you? Congratulations on reaching your milestone.

Some years ago, during the late 70's to mid-80's, we closed quite a few of our lumber mills here in the Pacific Northwest. More recently, by the looks of the trains passing through, it appears that we are importing more and more from the North. So you just keep making trees; we need 'em!

Hey MikeC! . .Whar's my check?

Congratulations Mike on becoming an ambassador and also reaching the number 1000.

I am glad to see that you are really a teacher and that when the bell rings saying school is out for the day you don't put your teaching hat away but just take it to another venue.

This great hobby of ours is going to survive the digital age because of people like yourself.
