I've got FreeCad loaded on my machine. After watching a lot of the Fusion tutorials by Paul and Lars I'm not very happy with FreeCad. I found it difficult to use. Seems toy like to me in its screen presentation. Perhaps I need to listen to another person showing how to use it.
YMMV on this program. My mileage was very short.

Posted - 11/28/2020 : 11:30:40 AM After this discussion I decided to sign on to my Fusion360 and found that it’s expired and there is no option that I can find to renew as a “freeloader”. In looking around I discovered a program called FreeCAD and a fellow, Dr. Zax that has a good command of teaching and I may just give that program a try after I return from my next trip North.
Always liked Fusion360 and as just a 3d printer I see the FreeCAD may be just fine for 3d. No idea about CNC stuff. Too old to start yet another high investment “hobby” |

Posted - 11/28/2020 : 09:17:49 AM Thanks Jim. That's what gets me about this tech. About the time you get comfortable with it, they change it and you need to start over. Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can sneak a new computer into the house with out the other half going ballistic. That Honey Do list is long.

Or, something close to that. Good plan!

Posted - 11/27/2020 : 9:17:19 PM Perhaps I panicked to soon. After watching both Paul and Lars demos I'm convinced that it would be the software I'd use. At present though I need to update my Sherline CNC with ball screws and get an updated computer that's faster and with the latest Windows 10.
I have a question. Are the design files I create stored on my hard drive or do they go to the cloud? I don't care about file sharing or what ever they call it. I also don't need 5 axis capability.
I'll wait till the dust settles and see what the hobbyist say next year when the new software comes out. In the mean time I'll be looking to upgrade my computer and mill.
I'm a bit sorry here that I stirred the pot.

Posted - 11/27/2020 : 6:29:11 PM Well I am reassured. I was a little worried because I just signed up and was enjoying learning it. Although the YouTube instructor I found easiest to learn from, uses an older version and it can be tough to find the functions he uses on the newer program. |

Posted - 11/27/2020 : 4:59:13 PM Right Bob! Not too many hobbyists need 5 or 6 axis milling capability. I haven't seen any degradation in the stuff I'm using it for. It still does the 2-1/2 axis CAM for my mill, and creates the .stl's for the printer. It's true "some people are not happy", they can get a refund. Oh, wait a minute, they didn't pay anything.
The sky is not falling.

Posted - 11/27/2020 : 2:59:53 PM The changes won't effect me negatively as I only use it to design for 3D printing. The Changes will help them stop people from taking advantage of them by using their Intellectual property to make greater profits.

Posted - 11/26/2020 : 10:50:05 PM I use it. They haven't sent warnings or the 3d nerd cops for me yet...
I still hate constraints fusion
