Posted - 11/18/2020 : 1:14:35 PM Wow, you did a wonderful job, very impressive! I hope to tackle some things like this in the future, so far my tinkering has only been to paint one tender, remove some lettering on a few other cars, and put DCC into a few of my locos.
Regards, Ted

Posted - 09/22/2020 : 1:04:52 PM Now it's pretty much done. Ive only have to insert the new battery when it arrives.

Tested it without major problems (except for the too weak battery I had). https://youtu.be/eHsiyrJH4fs

Posted - 09/22/2020 : 10:09:10 AM Michael, Nice work on the beautiful engine! I also model in G scale, mostly 1:29. |

Posted - 09/22/2020 : 06:52:48 AM I designed a kerosene headlight for it:

It's printed and is currently being painted. |

Michael,
Its pretty easy to make the tender a little closer coupling. I made mine with a piece or brass bar stock and brass tubing. It is attached to the tender at the bolster. This is an earlier version of the Big Hauler that I modified several years ago before I gave up on the garden railway.
Thanks, that's a very good idea! |

Thanks! Yes, G scale Bachmann. It's odd that it's roughly to 1:22.5 scale and not 1:20.3 as Bachmann's other big scale.
The repaint and conversion to the new chassis is almost complete.
There was a bit of a problem with fitting the air tanks though...
I had to move the tanks 1/8" to the rear to make them clear the cylinders.

The tender will get some weathering as well.

I cut the power pickups in the loco to prepare it for the RC conversion.
The tender will get the batteries, rx, esc and connections later. |

Posted - 09/18/2020 : 7:16:50 PM I just received my new subframe for my old 4-6-0.

As I'm going to install RC and batteries in it, I decided to repaint it as well.

I really didn't like the maroon/silver and gold paint job though...

The maroon fields on the cab and tender were masked.

I washed all the parts thoroughly with dish washing detergent and then primed with red etch primer.

Then a shot of Stynylrez black primer.

I went for a black, gold and maroon finish.</p>

I have the smokebox left to paint in graphite and then the interior walls green. |
