Posted - 10/25/2014 : 9:53:52 PM With its shorter days and days off, this time of the year tempts the modelmaker to start new projects. I try to resist temptation by beginning the new year with fewer unfinished projects on my desk.
One that has gone unfinished for too long is my model of a Central of Vermont boxcar, actually a modified BTS laser kit of a PRR 28' boxcar. Today it went through the paint shop.

Next step: Art Griffin decals. |

Mike, nice to see you working on a new historically based structure. It appears your off to a great start, and I look forward to what you have in store for us.

Thank you, Greg. I know I'm in good company when you offer up something from your storehouse of wordplay.

Posted - 07/11/2020 : 10:04:40 AM David, Thank you for the kind comments. I tend to switch back and forth between building structures and rolling stock in my modeling, enjoying both, but like you I enjoy structures the most of all model railroad activities.
Because I'm modeling from a prototype photo of a store in Alderson I don't plan to do the wing, but I agree that it adds a lot to the Ricketts company store.

Posted - 07/08/2020 : 09:58:21 AM Mike, I'll be following along! Structures are my favorite topic. Are you going to add the wing as in the photo of the Ricketts company store? The wing does adds a lot of character to the building. |

Ricketts wasn't too far from where I grew up, Mike. I've been to Ricketts Glen a few times over the years. A very beautiful area and park.
It looks like another great project!

Thank you, Chuck.
I’ve been through the general area on Interstate 81 so have come rather close to the places I’m modeling. Perhaps it’s time for me to get off the highway and visit some of the sights. It would make a good stopping-off point on our trips from WV to VT.

Posted - 07/03/2020 : 2:28:46 PM Michael great looking boxcars; very well done. Nice start to the building. I'm always interested in how others scratch build things and what they build. Good start; keep going. |

The “look” is primarily what I’m after, so thank you for your comment.
Ricketts, Alderson and other places along the LV Bowman’s Creek Branch were in a tourist region of lakes and streams; I’m not surprised you’ve been there.

Posted - 07/01/2020 : 5:16:54 PM Nice! You've captured the look with the parts from the parts-box. I think I've been to Ricketts Glen State Park, but I don't remember if any of the lumber era buildings are still there. (It was more than 40 years ago...)
