here is some additional backstory. sheri's late husband kyle was in advertising. he was a wiz on a mac.
i made a deal with him. i told him that if he agreed to do all of our promo stuff for the band i'm in, i would build his wife a model of their home. he died a month later. i felt that i needed to build the model to honor our deal, so that is what i did. it is now finished and i'm waiting for her to get back from florida (sometime today) so i can bring it over there and give it to her.
here are four pics of the finished product:
all in all i have to say i'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out. as an aside, the guy that did the plaque was so taken by the story and pics of the model that he gave it to us for $10.00. offered $20.00 and he said no. the base is made from a plank of aspen and stained red mahogany (at the owner's request), then a couple coats of a matte verathane.
now i can focus on the backwoods water tower....

a little update:
i talked with sheri a couple of days ago. the bed and breakfast is booked solid through the summer, and a local ski hill has approached her to partner up with them for the winter. she's listed on two hotel sites and gets business from them regularly. she's sponsoring a girls softball team, getting involved in the local rotary and business is BOOMING!
she called me to tell me that her guests are blown away by the model. it sits in the dining room and they can't help but see it while eating her gourmet breakfast, and they all love it. i couldn't be more pleased.

a few months ago i received the o scale resource magazine (an ezine) and on the cover was a
"what's on your bench" feature so i clicked the link and sent him the final pics of the bed and breakfast. he emailed me back almost immediately and asked if i'd want to write up a little something on the build.
it was published last week.
if your interested it's the article "scratch building with styrene".
i'm almost famous.....
