Howdy folks,

After a long hiatus (2009 - Cats Head Pier), I am finally building again. Train club officer duties "ate my brain". Alas, I am no longer the CFO.

My best buddy, Joe Batson, asked me to build an On30 logging camp kitchen for him. I gladly agreed, especially since he has helped me get excited about On30 and building.

Although I didn't have plans, I assessed all Joe's requirements (after much tooth pulling) . The model is for Choctaw Lumber in Southeastern Oklahoma. You can see his build thread here http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=37549&SearchTerms=Choctaw. After a lot of research, I finally started the build. This thread will summarize the process. It has been years since I scratch built anything, so this has been a treat and a bit of a challenge.

The model is 40' long and 12' wide. The camp cars rest on two massive skids. The materials used were/are St Albert lumber and wooden coffee stirs. Joe asked that the structures be painted oxide red and weathered. The windows and doors are by Rusty Stumps and Tichy. The design is an amalgamation of many kitchen car designs.

Away we go,
Mike Corley

Thanks for the nudge, Jerry.

Since we moved my Mom in with us, and she took the room that I used for hobbies, I haven't worked on models. I do need clear off the dining room table and get busy with this since the lumberjacks are starving. ~mike

Thanks Jim and Paul. I appreciate the support.

I need to get to the bench and finish this model. The lumber jacks are complaining about eating K rations.

Have fun,
Mike

Thanks Philip. I learned the method in a clinic Dave taught at the 2009 (I think) Craftsman Structure Show. The technique is also shown on the Scotty Mason video series, "http://www.scottymason.com/_p/prd15/2835669091/product/painting-and-weathering-detail-castings.

Have fun,
Mike
