With its shorter days and days off, this time of the year tempts the modelmaker to start new projects. I try to resist temptation by beginning the new year with fewer unfinished projects on my desk.

One that has gone unfinished for too long is my model of a Central of Vermont boxcar, actually a modified BTS laser kit of a PRR 28' boxcar. Today it went through the paint shop.

Next step: Art Griffin decals.

Looking good Michael.

Looks like you may have been the cause of the denuding of the HO scale forest.

Michael Hohn Posted - 06/19/2019 : 11:31:14 PM

I think somebody might have posted his obituary. You’ll have to search.

Thank you for the link, Mike.

Nice models can be seen in the Challenge thread.

Looking at that thread was bittersweet: I was saddened to learn of the passing of Frederic Testard. I have known Frederic since my Sn3 days, but over the past several years our internet paths didn't cross again, until I joined the Early Rail forum. Frederic was such a splendid modeler and nice person. Do you know the cause of his passing?

i think it's worthy of its own layout but an extension will do fine.

good job Mike.

I've been applying chute details to the coal shed that I built for this year's challenge thread. The chutes are all rigged up but not glued in place yet in this photo:

I was afraid I would knock and break off chutes as I worked on adjacent ones so I left securing them in place for last.

I've been asked how much stripwood I used for this structure. I didn't keep a tally, but here are the labels for packs I emptied. Some were not full when I started and I've used parts of other packs, but this gives a general idea:

I need to build a small extension to my layout to accommodate this new industry.

Making any progress?

You've grown awful quiet here in this thread.

Just sayin'.

Carl, thank you. The kit is manufactured by Portland Locomotive Works and available from the Keystone Division (Mid Central Region) of the NMRA: https://www.keystonedivision.org/convention_kits/convention_kits.html

Thanks, Frank. You're right, but that would require me to settle on a track plan; I wouldn't want to be moving lines and poles around all the time.

Whatcha Gonna do?

in Michigan

Thank you, Pete. With the railroad colors, I'm fairly committed. But, who knows what might happen. Nothing is final.

Thank you.

I think it would work for almost anything requiring the bay window arrangement. I happened to set it down by the coal shed I'm building and they looked natural together.
