Posted - 06/04/2012 : 10:47:08 AM I'm seriously considering purchasing a Bachmann On30 4-6-0 w/ DCC/Sound. Anyone here have any experience with this engine? How does it run? How does it sound? Etc. It'll likely be running on ME On30 c/83 flextrak with #5 turnouts and 24" to 30" curves, no grades. Any input will be appreciated! |

I love my 4-6-0, and really like how you dressed up yours. Why aren't you posting over in the on30 forum? |

Lovely weathering job with that 4-6-0, very subtle and looks just right.

Posted - 06/12/2012 : 5:59:07 PM Thanks everyone! I got mine yesterday and ran it around the HO layout. Very smooth, good low speed and handled the 24" curves and #4 & #6 turnouts OK. I have a couple of HO diesels with sound, but this is the first steamer with it. Love it! Thanks again folks! |

Posted - 06/12/2012 : 06:23:28 AM Andy The whaleback should look pretty good behind it. I did the model for Keith Wiseman, and run a whaleback behind my 2-4-0 and it looks good. I think Wiseman still sells them...

Posted - 06/12/2012 : 01:59:28 AM I got one for my birthday and am awaiting its arrival. I want to get one of the Backwoods Miniatures whaleback tender kits, but they haven't answered my emails yet. |

Posted - 06/10/2012 : 8:42:44 PM Unpacked mine today and it runs great on code 83 and 22" radius curves. It creeps along; I am watching it now... it has moved 4 feet in 45 minutes. I bet it does better after I break it in. It is a big engine, bigger than anything I run but I know it ran on the White Pass so mine will go in for a repaint so it can interchange with my T&ML RR. |

Posted - 06/06/2012 : 10:01:27 AM Len I have one and it runs great, like the Connie, its heavy enough for great pickup and runs the rails well. I run on code 83, with 95 percent of my curves are 20-22" radius, and a short section is 18ish. I use #5 handmaid switches. I did not get sound with mine when I purchased it, I installed Tsunami 10000 decoder afterwards, and used a K-Class decoder because I like the sound effects.

Posted - 06/04/2012 : 11:26:16 AM Runs Great, will handle your curves without issue. First one I got a couple years ago I took it out of the box for the first time at one of our On30 shows and it ran ALL DAY perfectly never derailed, never missed a beat.
Very heavy engine and a perfect runner.
Personally I prefer the Zimo sound to the Soundtraxx/Tsuinami that comes with it.
