Posted - 05/14/2012 : 08:28:14 AM Hi again! I have gotten very many, and differing opinions on the pictures I chose to use as inspiration on my Astra .... It's very easy to become stuck in a rut, so to speak, when designing a custom painting.... Therefore I thought that maybe I can have a small competition here on the forum. Submit the picture that you would think would be suitable to use as an inspiration for a custom paint on my car. It doesn't have to be your own pic, just some that you think would do... It must however be suitable for b/w and have some connection with trains.... The winner (which I choose), will win this pencil drawing I made some years ago:
The winning pic (if deemed better), will be used instead of one of the pics I already had. This is the pics I had chosen before:

I will let the submissions drop in until June 1:st, and if at least 6 pictures of quality are submitted, I will choose a winner the weekend after! Good luck guys!

Posted - 06/02/2012 : 08:19:48 AM Thanks for all the entries! I had a really hard time choosing. What really made the cut was that it differed a lot from my original idea..... So congrats to Andykins!! This is how I think i will interpret it:
As you can see, the general impression is what I was after.....I have mailed the artist as well, just to make sure. There will be some changes in the finished artwork as well.... Here is also the revised passenger side:

Thanks to all for the great fun I had with this!

Posted - 05/28/2012 : 08:57:16 AM Hi again, just to remind you that it's only this week left for the entries. :-) I was so unfortunate/fortunate, to have a driver hitting my rear bumper at a parking lot, so it will have to be repainted.
That made it possible to paint some new add-on's in the cars original paint..... I've ordered some eye lids for the head lights and a new grille... that will spice up the look a bit.... I'm also in the middle of negotiating with a sponsor for some rims and wheels for it, as I've already got an invitation for a car show later this summer. :-) They are quick to book...... The future will tell how far I will take the looks of this car though...
BTW, I had a friend over the other day who owns another Opel. And that's one I would love to own.... An Opel Astra V8! To say it's fast and race worthy is a gross understatement! :-) :-) :-)

Posted - 05/14/2012 : 4:30:59 PM The train picture I see in my good dreams , is not mine, but one by David Leonard...

I call it "The Iron Horse". Simple and straight forward, it was taken in Strasburg, PA. It portrays to me an image of the transformation of power, from flesh to iron. Of coarse the team in the background would probably have to be enlarged (artistic license...?) to be represented appropriately.
The photography artist is here among us now on this forum. Permission to publish should be easy...just PM David Leonard. (A bottle of Merlot would help grease the way.... ...just kidding.)
Great idea...and I'm proud to submit a photo by a friend from the old Atlas Forum.
True art comes in all forms...and is never to be forgotten.

Posted - 05/14/2012 : 2:56:20 PM I like how you think there! I guess the permission of the first artist would be possible.... :-) The second one I don't know in person though....;-) I might have to clarify one thing though... The winning submission will not be used as is, but as an inspiration for a interpretation of it.... (If that made it clearer or not.... ). The concept of the picture is more important than the actual subject!

Posted - 05/14/2012 : 12:46:12 PM Hi Graffen.
What a generous and wonderful Idea! I don't have a picture, so I can't join in, but I think its a terrific thing for you to do.
I hope you get a picture that you like! Greg in Australia |
