Posted - 05/02/2012 : 07:51:51 AM I have quite a few of the older Roundhouse 40-foot boxcars and the one thing that stands out like a sore thumbs is the 'wavy' plastic roof walks. Is there a nice realistic replacement for these roof walks? |

Posted - 05/03/2012 : 5:08:26 PM I like KD roof walks - and have several spares for replacing on cars that need them. Although they are delrin, Microscale now has glue that allows them to be bonded together. I have been using C-Pox which also works well with delrin.
The tichy stuff looks good. Plano stuff is nice when the car required something other than standard apex material. Bowser also has nice styrene roof walk material for their covered hoppers.

Posted - 05/03/2012 : 08:21:50 AM I didn't do my homework very well, I ordered several sets from Tichy last night. I also needed some running board replacements on some 36-foot boxcars and I figured that the Tichy roof walks would be easier to cut. They seem to lack some of the details that the Kadee walks do though...probably should have researched better.

I also order a couple of the fire escapes and other details. Tichy has something going with free shipping after 25 bucks and 20 per cent off with 50 bucks. I was only going to order 40 bucks worth of stuff; but some quick math told me that I could get $10 more for free. Can't beat that |

Posted - 05/02/2012 : 8:36:15 PM Kadee and InterMountain both offer plastic open mesh roofwalks as individual parts. Although I tend toward the Kadee roofwalks. They have the corner grabs molded on. The corner grabs ahve to be installed on the InterMountain roofwalks. |

Posted - 05/02/2012 : 4:05:07 PM I model the late 1970s so I have very few roofwalks, but when I do want to include an older car not yet changed over, I use the Kadee roof walks which come in multiple colors and 40' and 50' lengths. They look great, especially with a little weathering.
