Posted - 05/01/2012 : 11:30:00 AM Last September I was able to go to the Narrow Gauge Convention in Hickory NC. There I saw the Sundance Central Modular RR. I was just blown away at the work on that Layout. I have been working on a Ho layout in my basement for about 9 months. The work has been going well on it. I have been collecting things for it as I go. Well about 2 months ago I went to a local small train show. There i picked up a few odds and ends. I ran across a G gauge Passenger car for next to nothing. I needed it like I need a hole in my head. Well I bought it. It really got me wanting to do another Large scale layout. I use to have about 300Ft garden railway in my back yard. I also ran one that ran around the inside of my whole house. Yes I had holes cut in all the walls and it even ran threw to shower. All this was about 15 years ago. Well I moved and the trains did not survive the move. I did keep a couple. I kept a Shay and a Climax. I also Had about 300 ft of aluminum track which I pull up but could not bring myself to throw away. Well I have been bitten by the bug again. I have been researching the G scale modulars and Getting the parts and finally started building about 3 weeks ago. My Goal it to keep it small enough to fit in my 12x6x7 Trailer. I ended up with a plane that would give me 16 modules. I will make a rack that I can set each module on its end and lock into place. I need to keep the clearances to about 9" so building and trees will have to be removed for transport. Here is a basic drawing of the layout.

Posted - 05/18/2013 : 09:02:53 AM Well i finished all the way around the layout with the basic colors. I was trying to figure out how to tie the only module that was wider than the rest. I made 2 angle pieces and one for each side. Here is a pic of one . I can't get all three modules together on the table at once.

Posted - 05/12/2013 : 08:31:10 AM Yeah the wiring does look a little rough. I just have not had time to solder it together. But I will fix that soon. I am on my last backdrop board.. boy it takes while to paint these. I can see why somebody would charge $500-600 to do a detailed one this size.... |

Posted - 05/09/2013 : 10:51:36 AM I’m sure the building inspector will find the interior just fine, but I’m not so sure about the electrical inspector. You should expect a red tag. |

Posted - 05/08/2013 : 8:45:31 PM Well I spent the weekend trying to clean up the shop. I am continuing around the layout getting the basic part of the backdrop painted. I painted, then permanently mounted the speakers and camouflaged them on the trestle modules. They were loose and would roll off when the module was moved. I am slowly moving the whole modular back into the shop for the summer. Too much heat on it over the summer...

Posted - 04/24/2013 : 04:09:38 AM You can't buy Furniture off the self for a building this size. I needed a desk for the Station personnel to work behind. I built a really basic desk. I added a phone and I made a pen holder.

Posted - 04/24/2013 : 04:02:09 AM Next I applied the paneling and the molding around the room. I finished framing the windows and door.

Posted - 04/23/2013 : 5:27:27 PM I guess these builds were not totally designed for an interior. I framed up the door. I had to recess the planks to make them fit flush. I also tried multiple colors on the inside walls. I tried a pink, blue an a beige. The green I tried looked the best.

Posted - 04/21/2013 : 10:06:27 PM As I continue to work around the backdrop. I had pulled the Train Station out to see what how it looked with the backdrop. I figured it was time for me to work on the interior. I think I mentioned it before but I have added Sound to 4 locations on the layout. Originally I just laid the speakers on the floor of the station. But I needed to move them so I could add the interior.
I found out from a buddy of mine you get just as much sound out of the side of a speaker as you do in the from. So i went ahead and glued the speaker high up on the wall.I ran the speaker wires down the corners through straws. Once glue Dry tested the system and still works great.
By The way. I got my sounds from Fantasonic: http://www.fantasonics.com/
I was looking for a medium size station sound. The small station they had was just to quiet. So Jim at Fantasonic was working on a more active track. Jim made me an early version of the track that works and sounds really well.

Posted - 04/20/2013 : 10:56:37 AM Well I have a long time until the next show I plan on going to I started working on the back drop again. Here are pic's what I am starting with. I am going to go around the entire backdrop and doing the mountains in the back ground. Once I do a lot of practice I will paint trees and other things closer in the foreground. Like I said I 'm not a painter. except when my wife hands me a roller and a gallon of paint and says "paint this room"....

Posted - 04/16/2013 : 8:26:47 PM Well I am pretty far along right now. I never took the cables off of the shovel. I just built around it all. I prestained all the wood and precolored the siding before applying. Here is what i have. I still may add doors and I have done no weathering yet...
