Posted - 01/28/2012 : 3:48:22 PM My original plan was to build a La Belle 1905 combine, but right out of the blocks, I messed up and glued some siding on the sides wrong. It was an irreversible error, well at least for building the kit as it was designed. All isn't lost, it has kitbashing potential - I have a future project in the back of my mind.
I'll move on before I start posting pictures.

Your comments here prompted me to post that info over there. Still, I feel like it was "Closing the bard door after the horse has bolted." |

Posted - 03/21/2012 : 4:58:56 PM Thanks, Bruce. The roof is glued on, but I think I'm be better prepared to handle the rest of the cars. I read your comments in the NMRA AP Cars Certificate "Support" Thread. http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24682&whichpage=6 I'll be following your advice.

Ah yes, the conformity issue. I think that half my paper work is there to head off any questions on that. I got hit early on in structures with conformity.
If your roof were removable, I would suggest re-submitting with some pictures to head off the conformity issue.
At any rate, it still counts as one of your eight, and it gets the 'tough one' out of the way (passenger car). Remember, only four of the eight need to earn a Merit Award.
Besides which, it is a great looking model! |

I had the car evaluated, but only received 76 points. I was hit on Conformity because there was no prototype documentation. I was also hit on Scratch Build and Detail because the roof wasn't removable to see the interior. I don't think that would have helped since my detailing of the interior was only enough to see passengers through the windows. I now know that there's a big difference between a contest model and one that looks good on a layout. I'll do it right next time.

VERY nice looking car. The joy to me of a wood kit is simply working with the wood...but you show that with time and patience it can rival plastic for results. I love it.

Håkan, when you start your kit, make sure you post it here. I'd like to see how you do it.
Chuck, I'm working on getting it evaluated, so I guess that starts me down the rolling stock road.
