Thanks dallas and ironflyer (sorry mate, your name slips my mind)

fitted some steps to the tender, the kit calls for some holes to be drilled into the casted on tool box at the rear for screws to put in to hold the whole thing together (with an extra two at the front, with little pieces of plastic glued in, however the plastic supplied was too small(, however I found but glueing it to the floor with a very tight fit to the inside of the tender, is snug enough to hold tight with a single screw in the rear of the tool box
but ofcourse this ninny drilled right through the toolbox >_< will have to bust out the filler later.

also turned a new sand dome, as you can see in the photo, the stock Bachmann piece is just far too large, will also turn a little water hatch for the saddle tank too :)

but, if you want a nice little tender for a porter or other small steamer, I really recommend this backwoods one unlike their one for the porter, this gives you a choice of fuel, and is much smaller :) (just a happy customer)

So, the backwoods miniatures tender kit came back into stock and was ordered, and arrived very promptly.

When opening the box, I found to my surprise that there was very little to it, the tender floor and end beams are one casting, as is the tender body, two side frames, a water hatch, some wheels and screws (and some half roof parts, and split bunker parts for use with their vertical boiler kit)

while this would be a very simple kit, and could probably be built in an evening, however, why make things easy :P
I need to add pickups, since I removed two of the pickups from the engines main drive wheels, I didn't want to rely on the small lead truck just for pick up.

I started out with a square of PCB board, and some brass strip, and I spent about 35 mins bending, soldering, and then stoped and thought "why am I making this harder then I need too?" so took a length of thing brass wire, put 3 small loops in it, two will rest agaist the backs of the wheels, and centre loop, allows a screw to pass through and screwed into the tender floor. with about 10mins, most of that being spent adjusting I had pick ups added :)

I have also decided to rework the DCC fitting. I was going to put the chip in the tender, now I am thinking I will just cut the chip off, get a far smaller one, solder onto the leads left in place, and slide it under the saddle tank, then only 2 wires will be coming over from the tender, and I will keep the cab, the underframe erc very clear of wires :) (and saves me stripping it back down to swop the whole chip out,

The hobo arrived from my friend :) she did a stella job at painting him, and named him wally :)


sadly that's all I have to update about, work is keeping me busy :)
