Dallas,
Young Andy is sleeping right now so the door is open for you to stealth grab the thread.
Andy,
If you do get blown to this side of the pond my offer from last year stands. Plus my Daughter moved out so we have an extra room and being a dad I feel even better bout you staying at my place.
dallas_m Posted - 05/17/2013 : 12:06:58 AM
I've heard that every time someone taps the tank, they lose a few more floor boards! (Oh farts, I think I've become one of those thread hi-jackers now.)

Andy,
Words of wisdom. Be careful removing deck boards from under the tank of a Frijolene car. It is a known explosive and any wheel spark could send you and your whole RR to this side of the pond.

PS I do like it.

Non PC it does smell really bad.

Andy -- That's a neat-looking conversion!

Ron -- This isn't quite the same, but the Diamond & Caldor tank cars shown on pp 50-51 of the Spring 2010 "Logging, Mining & Industrial Annual" have a very similar look!

Here's a web shot ... looks like mostly open framework under the tank with a few deck boards underneath:

Not quite the same as Andy's, but similar ... and with a load of FRIJOLENE ... Andy's car is gonna need all the ventilation it can get!

Thanks ron, if you get a copy of iowa last narrow gauge railroad (rail images book, i only paid about £8 so i would guess its also cheap in the states) in a few photos the pair of tank cars the line had "look" as if they had an open deck, i cant be 100% sure as the photos are dark and grainy, but it was guessing, or paying $100plus for a version of a book that is more or less like the railimages book, but with drawings :) im sure we all know im not one for copying anything real. but im glad someone else likes the look of it too :D
Just put some matt varish on the tank car, found a box and packed the GE locomotive. put in a few screws in some coupler boxes i had forgotten when i built the cars. and I think i am all ready for the show.

also got a very exciting email. more on that on sunday.

Since the bachmann 18foot boxcars have been a noshow (with hattons, basicly lieing to me saying they have not yet been released yet...) wanted to have something extra besides the new flatcar, so pulled this shelf queen of a tank car down, put it back together from its sub assembly sections and started to add a little rust. if you guys recall when i started this, roughly based on two tank cars that ran on the bellevue and cascade railroad, a much cut down bachmann car frame, clad in wood, with the tank left as is, with verne's decals on one side, and a plain leased tank car company on the other. just needs a break wheel and some more weathering.

Quite agree dallas, lack of steam for my layout, and so far all porters, and lost steam (no pun) with my plantation porter.

Junior, thats a wonderful little engine. did you make a thread for its build? I really enjoy your work
