These pictures were taken in 2005 with a cannon AE-1 program. The photo lab put them on a 3.5 floppy. The pictures were taken in or near Copperhill, TN.

Taccoa river bridge. Its just over into Georgia on the Hook and Eye Line.

I agree with Jon, the Doe River Gorge in Tenn. (for one example) is as, if not more dramatic than anything the Rockies has to offer.

Railroads in the South go through the Southern Appalachians and Chattanooga TN has some dramatic scenery so I think it is something more than the visual aspect.

With reference to the comment that "Southern railroads don't get any attention in modeling mags", I think you will find that quite a few Southern logging railroads have been featured in Shortline & Narrow Gauge Gazette.

I think the issue revolves around visual interest: if the terrain isn't dramatic the modeler must compensate by making his railroad and structures carry the entire load of attracting attention, whereas areas like the Appalachians or the Rocky Mountains make great visual displays all by themselves, with the railroad as an added bonus.

The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway unit of the Georgia Northeastern still uses the Taccoa river bridge on its runs between Blue Ridge GA and Copperhill TN.

Is that Taccoa bridge still in use?
Tyson Rayles Posted - 04/19/2012 : 08:50:54 AM
No Jon but it will bring the thread up on the active topics page the same as if you had made a new post to the thread.

Thanks Peter

Edit: Does RR-Line forum send out an email if I edit a post?

I know that at least the long distance photo is during winter time.

Unless these are winter time pics the land still looks pretty rough.

acid Tank car loading facility in 1995:

In some of the previous old photos the acid plant is the one with the large stacks and the huge rectangular hanger like building which is the acid chamber. The acid laden smoke from the smelter would be put into the large lead lined acid chamber and the acid condensed out of the smelter smoke.

1997 Long distance view giving some idea of the size of the acid plant:

Around 500 by 400 and 75 kb with 2 or 3 per post works best Jon, thanks for asking.
LandNnut Posted - 01/30/2009 : 11:40:03 AM
Hi guys;
I have done some editing on this topic and reposted some of the photos so that they are now posted right side up. Also I have moved some of the photos around into other posts so that most posts only have three pictures in them. At the time I posted more than three photos per post I had not learned that it is easier on the dial up folks to only have three photos per post. Some of the photos have now landed in random places in later posts than those the photos were first posted in.
Another photo that is for reference on how to junk up yards :

Mike what size photos does your dial up have trouble with and should I post one photo per post if the photo is over a certain amount of kb? The photo above is 103.57 KB.

Hidden Faces:

just Nosing around in Hook and Eye Line cut for Scenery reference:

That one was taken in 1995 and cropped and edited in Flickr picnic photo editor. This just seemed like a good place to drop it in with the other "hidden faces".
