Posted - 08/08/2009 : 11:54:15 PM I present to you the potential to design an interesting modular layout to fit in a 12X10' space...there are plenty of givens and druthers available in detail at this site:
http://modelrailroading.wordpress.com/2009/08/09/my-offical-new-layout-contest/
Prizes will be awarded, the Winner will recieve a very interesting model or service of equivalent cost, should they want one.
The Scale is HO, for the record. So grab your pencils and graph paper (or XtrakCAD) and have at it. The contest will run one Month from August 10th to September 10th.
I will field design questions and other information throughout that month and I'll be happy to work with everybody to get the most out of their trackplans.
One last note is that it doesn't have to fill the entire 10X12 space, smaller layouts are just as good!
Have Fun! I can't wait to see what you guys and gals come up with. |

Posted - 08/12/2009 : 8:18:08 PM Not a bad Idea, let me post up some additional ideas I have in regards to the main portion of the layout scene, especially around the town of San Miguel proper. I have a SPINS track diagram of that location and I'll see that I can post it up there.
It wouldn't be a grain elevator actually. It's more like a milling structure...I'll post a satelite shot of it if I can find a good one.

Posted - 08/12/2009 : 4:06:52 PM Also, one Idea I had was to put the station inside the y as some prototypes did, but I could not figure out how to draw it and get a passing siding in too. Another idea I had would be to put your switching module in front of the grain elevator, but grain elevators are huge and I didn't know if it would fit. Jon |

Posted - 08/12/2009 : 3:28:10 PM L&N Nut, I like your ideas. I'll play around with your plan and see if I can make it in Atlas RTS.
Keep those ideas flowing! That's an excellent start. |

Posted - 08/12/2009 : 07:03:11 AM Maybe this will give you some ideas and get you started. I couldn't figure out how to use some of the module shapes you required. I tried to leave plenty of room for turnouts. I guessing there are some turnout space issues at Camp Robertson. Maybe some of the other guys who are better at this than me can put some of these ideas into a drawing program and make a better looking plan. If any of these ideas interest you enough I will email you a file of the full 1700x2338 scan.
