This episode of Iron Craftsman Structure Modelers(lol) brings together two prolific builders, Mike (runner), who was honored by having his Railroad Camp displayed at Brett’s table at CSS08, and Elliott (ETinBH), builder of the now tattered Logging Camp diorama, also displayed at CSS08. Both are known for the rapid development of their builds and well reviewed finished product. While we will not have any time restrictions on the duel, we will also not be competing in any sense of the word. We just thought it was a cleaver idea and good title. So, this thread will memorialize the trek, such as it is, and give folks a chance to enjoy the trials and tribulations Twin Mills is sure to pose. Both builders have soaked their strip wood and mixed the various elixirs needed. Let the competition begin!

(As an aside, the reason a separate thread has been started is that the previous Twin Mills thread was getting long and Carl, one of several builders, will soon be finishing his build with the completion of the diorama, so, since this is a long project, it was thought a new thread for these builds was appropriate. Here is a link to the original thread: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4895 . We invite others that might be tempted to dip their respective toes in the Twin Mills log pond to join in. The trip always seems shorter and easier with company)

Congrats, Elliott. A well deserved achievement in one of the best mags.

For those who have not yet seen or received their copy of the new 2011 (Spring) Mining, Logging & Industrial Annual by Westlake Publishing, Elliott's Diorama is one of the featured articles. There are some excellent photos of the diorama which I have not see in the build thread.

Elliott's article runs on pages 86 thru 93 and has a feature page on how Elliott paints his castings.

Congratulations to Elliott for having this wonderful diorama featured in such an outstanding magazine. Way to go Elliott!!

Thanks, Jaime. The diorama traveled over 5,500 miles. It was nearly eaten by Bears in Yellowstone, survived a thundering hail storm over Donner Pass, was paraded by thousands of rows of corn in Nebraska and Iowa, visited the Black Hills, and now rests comfortably in my studio on the Russian River- a fitting end to this saga. Thank you to those who wished me well and supported me during this quest.

I guess it is "The End". . . .or is it?

Congratulations to Elliot for taking Best of Show at the 2010 NNGC with Twin Mills.

Congratulations to Mike for taking Best of Show at the 2009 NNGC with Twin Mills.

Well done gentlemen.

Good luck at the show, Elliott. I really like the conceptual work you've done to reassemble the mill in a way quite different from what Brett (and the Pino Grande owners) had designed.

Elliot, beautiful job on the mill. The 2000 mile trip should be fun in itself hauling such a delicate beauty. I hope you don't have to purchase another vehicle to haul the next diorama. Good luck at the convention and safe travels.

"On the road again...." (Insert Willie here)

Have a great trip Elliott and best of luck with the contest. I'm sure this is going to be a "crowd pleaser". It even looks great boxed!

Elliot,

Make sure you leave enough room for all the trophies on the trip back.

And the journey begins - test-fitting all the stuff in the back of the car for the trip - tick tock

ETinBH Posted - 08/16/2010 : 7:41:59 PM
Thanks guys. It is fun to capture those little shots- there are so many and most folks will never see any of them since viewing the whole thing at once takes up your observation powers.

Guess what - the bird is back - caught him flying over the log pond scoping the fishing situation - it is dusk here and the mosquitoes are everywhere - so are the raptors. . .tick tock - 16 days left - I do not plan on any further changes - guess the next step is to let you guys see it in person and you can find all the things I photoshopped in the pics I've posted. lol

Prayers for Brian

A very nice new scene, Elliott. I'm looking forward to see how the diorama will be received at the show.
