The C&D Railroad - Pacific Division is a fictitious RR located in the foothill and coastal redwood regions of northern California. It has an interesting hisory, which I will share at a later date and now primarily supports the logging, wood products and coastal industries of the region.

Today I would like to introduce you to the harbor town of Grant's Landing, which serves the nearby lumber industry.

Residing on the seacliffs below the redwood forests, Grant's Landing has great views of the town of Diablo Falls across the bay,

which can be seen from almost every place in town.

I will be sharing the continued development of this approximate 20'x12' HO/HOn3 layout in coming months, including the towns, railyard, logging and mining industries, rivers and nearby dam. This project is well underway and will provide many more years of building enjoyment.

Over four years since the last post. Any updates available?

Glad to hear your thinking of hitting the bench again.
Just ease back in. We've waited this long we can wait another day!!!

It has been quite a while since I checked in and I appreciate the many kind words. Yes, the RR is currently shut down. Just too busy with family and work activities, plus so much time spent out of the country. My wife is pushing me to begin building again and hope to have time soon. Thanks again to all.

I think it fell off the edge.

Many of his locos have been sold on brasstrains.com.

Gregg, if you do come back, who did the painting on the locos? Nice work.

Didn't want this thread to fall off the edge. I'm still finding inspiration from it. :)

Hi Gregg, I hope all is well. I've really missed updates on your modelling and your layout. Hopefully 2012 will be a great year for you!

Munch, Lynn, Alpha and the rest of you, thanks for the positive comments and my apologies for the delayed responses. (I have not checked into this forum for many months, as there has been no time due to other challenges). One day I will have the time to get back to modeling.

Railroadtrac, you are correct that tools help, but you will find that many modelers here only own and use very basic tools that most everyone has. What makes the big difference is not the tools as much as the imagination, steady hand and attention to details. Do not let a lack of tools stop you from modeling. And Alpha, welcome back to the hobby!! I hope the photos here and the rest of the forum get you motivated and building again soon.

The people who are doing the work at actually experienced in the tools required to do the work.

Hi All!

I'm just coming back to the hobby after a 40 year (that's right - 40 years) layoff and seeing this gets my blood movin' real good. I must say......this is the best HO Scale modeling I've ever seen. Terrific work! What a treat following this thread. Hats off to the builder!

Thanks. No, this layout is far from ready to even be concidered for such recognition, but it was nice to get one photo published. As you have noticed, no progress of late, due to a length period being out of town. Is is always the case when away, I take time to study photos of the layout with a critical eye on what needs to be improved. This last trip I decided on two things. First, Diablo Falls is becoming too sprawling of a town and I want it more quaint, similar to Grant's Landing. Thus I will be changing the upper hills, removing structures and giving it a more country feel (like below town). This change should provide a better feeling of distance, as well as provide visual separation, especially when viewing from accross the harbor.

I have also decided to change the railroad name to something more in line with the 1920-30's Northern California region I am modeling.
