Okay, '08 participants, this will be the thread we use to post pictures of our visiting cars.

In fact, why not start by posting a picture or two of your interchange car on its home road.

I would sugest Cotton Balls, as they GIVE a lot better than the harder Popcorn. I have delivered several models, and I was told they were delivered in perfect condition. A bit more expensive though. Maybe you can surround the cotton balls with popcorn and ore the bubble rar

You have to love New England in the fall! Very nice recap of the interchange season Pete. Hope to do it again next year myself.

I agree, great review!! Pete, I have to slow down a little when reading. I initially thought you wrote, "I love that crap!"

John, great layout with alot of really nice scenes.

This has been a fun exchange. Next year I vow to have a good scenicked area or two for photos!!

Very, very nice! I love the recap, the scenery and the story line! And I especially enjoyed the Interchange this year. With luck (and some "free" time), I hope to have some better scenery in place for the '09 version!

Now . . . lemme see . . . I gotta pick a car . . . .

Well guys, it looks to me like the railfanning season is officially drawing to a close in my neck of the woods. While the leaves 'round here are still in full color, I saw the first few flakes of snow in the air this morning. I made what was probably my final photo outting of the year over this past weekend and got my photos back in record time.

I had heard from Bernie Cropsey, the HHRR's road foreman, that a special car would be on the 11:05 bound for Jacksboro and that I might want to take a look. He claimed the train would include the HHRR's highest earning per diem car of the year. Bernie says that circumstances were such that the car had been consistantly redirected all around the country, logging some 9,265 miles on foreign trackage, before finally returning back home this weekend.

So...I got myself down to Slade Jct. Saturday morning early and staked out a good spot to shoot from. I set myself up on the rise overlooking the interchange with the HR&W and waited. Shortly, an old HR&W Mikado hauling a long line of cars ambled up the line and stopped just below me to wait for clearance onto the HHRR main. It wasn't there long when I heard a deep rumble coming my way from the opposite direction, a sound I recognized as that of the Highland's big new F-3 units.

Sure enough, they soon appeared 'round the bend just beyond the Slade & Son factory, with a string of reefers in tow. Their approach was more head-on than I would have preferred for my shots, so I only got off one exposure as the train came on by.



Scurrying down off the rise to my car, I headed out toward Putney, making the short run to the station in record time. Still, I was none too soon, as the the big diesels were just around the bend. I got a nice shot off of the F-3's going by and a couple of HHRR employees out on the platform giving a salute to the passing train.



Bernie Cropsey had said the special car to look out for was HHRR reefer #27215 and sure enough, there it was right behind the B-unit. I managed a fair shot of it as the car rolled on by.



Following those two shots, I couldn't manage to get ahead of the train again. However, out on a drive Sunday, I happened to spot the car on a siding just outside Jacksboro. I parked the car, went over and took this photo of the well travelled car.



Being likely my last shot of the season, it brought back memories of so many cars I had photographed recently. There were those photos of that covered hopper containing God knows what special materials, presumably needed for war work.



Then there was that box car from the good old New Haven that I chased through the countryside.



And how about that tank car full of wine that ended up at the Shipyard Brewery up in the Pawling hills one stormy afternoon. They bottled it up and distributed it as a new product in their line. Did quite well from what I heard.



Of course, there was that way big box car that ended up giving an HHRR's crew such a time fitting it under the gallery at the warehouse facility over in Jacksboro.



I was particularly please to get some shots of the colorful old billboard reefer that I caught over at the A&P warehouse.



Another well remembered day was when those trucks got delivered to Gabler's over in Putney. It was a lot of action for that sleepy little burg.



I recall that Nashville car, too, that was so far from home, getting delivered over at Slade's.



Then, too, there was that car from the Saybrook Northern...the time I got stuck using only B&W film. It was the first car from that road I can recall seeing on the HHRR.



Yup, had a heck of a season of railfanning this time around. It'll be fun looking back over all those photos with a cup of hot coffee in hand come one of those cold, snowy, days this winter. See ya 'round, folks.

Thank you Bill, . .It will be good to have her home after such a long journey. Regarding her contents or lack thereof, I can always open the lids and take in the fumes! For me, it's just like breathing in the fumes of a freshly opened can of coffee, . .much better than drinking the stuff!
