OK guys. I warned you a couple of weeks ago. I have been bitten by the steel bug and just have to have a blast furnace. I made the mistake of joining the Yahoo steel group and ordering Jeff Borne's Walther's blast furnace detailing video's.

I figure if I am ever going to complete this it will have to be in front of a crowd so that I can't cut and run. You poor guys are the unwilling victims.

Seriously, this will give me a reason to push my modeling envelope. There will be new techniques to learn and master. There will be a lot of problem solving going on, of which I hope you guys will be able to come to my rescue. There will be times when I will feel I have bitten off more than I can chew. I will need your support. My motto is why aim low. You can always hit a low target. So here is my challenge.

Now this whole project would be easier if I had a Walthers HO blast furnace. But, I don't. I missed a few on e bay. If anyone knows of one that is for sale at a reasonable price please let me know.

I will be also learning to get better photo's so bear with me on that.

Ah, spring cleaning. Lin and I have wanted to get into that at our home as well. I did want to say how glad I am to still see you at this after all that you have been through.

Thanks for taking the time to share with us.

Good, There will be no progress on the LV until June. My parents house sold after being on the market a whole 12 days. I need to get that handled and clean in front of the CTC machine. I have some of my parents stuff piled 3 deep in front of it. The basement also needs a purging of stuff stored underneath the layout. Sandy has promised to decide what we don't need anymore. But I am looking forward getting back to it.

Ralph, you've taught yourself weathering quite well, I'd say. Very nice cars.

Do you think you could take one and sort of do a play by play on a car or two, so some of us could learn along with you? Take pics of each step or partial step to see what you did and how it turned out.

I know it is probably a PINA, but it would be greatly appreciated, by me and probably others.

Actually. I already did that, not as a formal thread, but over on the Friends of MRCS Facebook page and another forum. PM me if your interested in that info. I posted these back in Nov to Dec, and again in Feb/Mar.

If this stuff comes out decent, I am considering putting together a clinic for weathering for beginners and dummies, both of which I qualify for. I'll see if I can gather all the info and repeat it here.

Thanks Ralph. Yes, getting much better. I had a bout with brochitis and laryngitis which had me down and out for two weeks, but all is better now.

Looking foward to seeing some progress on the LV!

Nice weathering Ralph. And great to see this starting up again.

You take care of yourself.

Are you going to the EXPO this year????

The weathering is really excellent. I'm looking forward to your further work on the steel mill.

Ralph, good to see you back out from behind the tax forms! I like the weathering! That Southern hopper is my favorite. Nice work!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Believe it or not I am closer to working on this than you think. My fellow steel modeling buddy Seth from model rail radio sent me a piece of flexible tubing to use on my gas washer. That is what stopped me cold. Look for this thread to resume soon. I have a hankering to cut styrene again.

As Joe said, I have been playing around with this, trying to teach myself weathering.

However he has been doing some weathering on freight cars with oil paints. If you need a "Steel" fix look up Jim Mussers blog site, his models are fantastic.

Yes Joe. I know my heart goes out to him for all the problems he's had. And glad that he has worked threw them.
