Terrel,

A wealth of outstanding scratch built structures on your layout. It shows great talent and dedication.

Frederic,

That mine, set in such a rugged and vertiginous landscape, is absolutely awesome. Just love the way the overall slope of the structures echo that of the mountain and waterfall.

In my younger, daredevil days, when I skied a lot, I would have been tempted to take that long slope down the side of the roof (snow covered of course) and lift high off the bottom lip, and soar out into space, hoping that there was a clear lower slope to land on.

Thanks to all for the compliments!

Frederic, great looking mine complex. I see you are like me and model in several different scales. I don't care. I just like modeling. I can't quit!

Guys, you both have done excellent work on these projects.

Terrell, do you tend to draw plans for your scratchbuilds or are you a seat of the pants kind of builder? Pat

Terrell and Frederic,

You two have definitely kicked this thread up a notch with your outstanding scratch builds.
Thanks for posting and Terrell you must still have quite a few left that you can post.
Bring it on.

Pat, I guess I am a seat of the pants modeler. I do you photos of buildings, etc. that I like as inspiration. And sometimes actual drawings, if I have them.

John, I do have a lot left to show but I really need to update my portfolio.

For now, here's the scratch built machine shop.

That houses this, all scratch, except the Preiser figures. And Athearn flat car, barely visible in the back.

Excellent work, Terrell. How did you do the stone on the building walls?

George, the stone walls were made from a rubber mold I made years ago. I first built a frame, approx. 2 1/2 x 4" on a piece of styrofoam, the pebbly kind. Sprayed it with mold release, this causes the styrofoam to dissolve slightly and helps add texture, before pouring Plaster of Paris. When that set up I cut the casting into strips, then individual stones. Glued those one at a time to a piece of styrene and made the mold from latex rubber. The larger roundhouse behind the shop was also made from this mold out of plaster of Paris.

Do you mean you've scratchbuilt the machinery?

Yes, Frederic, it's all scratch. I used some photos from West Scale Models and real photos from the East Broad Top shops and others. Of course, some of the dimensions I had to guess at.

Terrell. I knew when I saw your first postings of your waterfront, that you had it in you to not let us down. I find it's not only me, but you have gotten the attention of everyone. Like Frederic stated, "Hats Off" too you!
